Guest Peeves Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) http://www.thestar.c...-classification I wonder what this will cost OHIP? and our taxes. Seems to me this proves that just about anything is a symptom of something. " Biting your nails isn’t just a bad habit. It’s now being reclassified as a full-blown psychiatric disorder. A proposed move by the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is expected to include nail-biting as a form of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) when it is revised for 2013. Nail-biting joins hair pulling and other pathological grooming habits in the OCD classification. Previously, the DSM put nail-biting in the “not otherwise classified” section of disorders." http://www.ncbi.nlm....lth/PMH0001926/ Edited October 10, 2012 by Peeves Quote
GostHacked Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Everything has to have a name and a disorder. They also have a pill to cure whatever condition they think deserves to be classified as a 'condition'. Or therapy. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I bite my nails a lot, but in the article it says it has to take up over an hour of your day or cause you significant distress. My nail-biting certainly isn't that bad and doesn't affect my life negatively in any way I see so I'll just keep on keepin' on. Guest Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 I bite my nails, but I don't know what the big deal is. They're cheap, and Rona always has lots. Quote
