REGINA  -  A judge is giving the NDP and Liberals more time to investigate their claims of voting irregularities in the last federal election.

At issue are the ridings of Palliser and Regina-Lumsden Lake Centre – which were both won by the Conservatives. The NDP and Liberals believe that hundreds of people may have voted in the wrong riding. The two parties claim at least 765 people received the wrong voter cards from Elections Canada.

I think that this is legal wrangling when the result isn't really in doubt, but hey, if it works go for it.

Still, I wonder how the results may change now that voters know that sending a couple more NDP members to Ottawa could give the NDP the balance of power (or the Liberals I suppose). Would the Liberals and NDP would work out an agreement to have one withdraw.? Plus I bet these two ridings would end up getting more national political attention than they ever have or will in their existances (Layton would probably be there every other day if he was smart).

It would be very interesting to watch, high political drama even, if they do hold those byelections. Welcome to the new fractured Canadian Parliament and the land of many future minority governments.

All too often the prize goes, not to who best plays the game, but to those who make the rules....

From what I can tell there is little sunstance to the theory that minority government is not a constuctive time, as politicians have to really pay attention, and a lot of legislation gets passed. Another Canadian myth bites the dust! ;)

By the time these by-elections wind their way through the court system we will probably be having another general election, eh?

An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't.

Byelections are no longer possible, looks like the election results are here to stay.

NDP, Liberals drop election challenge

REGINA  - The New Democratic Party and the Liberals have withdrawn an application challenging the federal election results in two Saskatchewan ridings.

Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre and Palliser were some of the closest races in the country, with the Conservatives claiming a marginal victory in both ridings.

But the New Democrats and the Liberals believe hundreds of people may have voted in the wrong riding.

The two parties claim at least 765 people received the wrong voter cards from Elections Canada.

Two weeks ago, a judge ordered Elections Canada to produce the election documents, but the NDP and the Liberals have now decided not to contest the results in court.

A lawyer representing Dick Proctor, the NDP candidate for the Palliser riding, says there were irregularities in the voting in that riding, but the NDP does not have the time and resources to prove it.

No opinion just thought I'd close it off.

LOL,now there is a situation they were wise enough to let

go.If the conservatives had enough spine to reverse that challenge,we actually have a new governing party,or at least a swift forthcoming election.
