waldo Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Omg.. Really? You need a history lesson on the global recession? ya see, the reference was to "Conservatives"... the graph reference is historical. You could choose to align with the standard go-to Harper Conservative excuse that "the Opposition parties made us do it"! Or you could actually look at the graph and associate the record years of extremely high Mulroney Conservative deficits... and you could contrast those against the comparatively smaller, much smaller, Trudeau deficits, or the Martin/Chretien surpluses. You could do that, right? Here, have a go, hey? Quote
Fletch 27 Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Typical... You liberals vote over and over for liberal. I didn't vote for mulrooney! I voted liberal! I'm just wise enough to see a great PM when we have one! And that's Harper! I will never vote lib again after Harpers majority.... It just feels right.... We're, I can be flexible.... You just seem brainwashed ya see, the reference was to "Conservatives"... the graph reference is historical. mentalfloss Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Just as an aside re: the opposition strategy. I think the best thing they can do is to continuously introduce a set of economic policy bills that they know will get passed in the house. This is a fundamentally better (and more long-term) strategy that could defeat the Tories than the existing wedge-issue game they are playing right now. It rids them of the divisive moniker and makes them look like better stewards of economic policy than the Conservatives. Quote
madmax Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) Typical... You liberals vote over and over for liberal. I didn't vote for mulrooney! I will call your bluff and raise you TWO!!! I highly doubt you voted for Turner over Mulroney in both 1984 and 1988. Especially considering the size and popularity of the Mulroney Conservatives of that era. It is what they did with those 2 massive majorities that people soon became disenchanted with. As for global recession, one doesn't have to look further then the republican and centerright Democrats as to why the economic collapse occurred. JENGA! It is NeoLiberal (adopted and supported by this Conservative Government) that creates the free market era loved by those in the booming 1920s. It is the dismantling of social safetynets while pocketing the money and charging individuals more that help create conditions that lower overall standards of living. The recession is just one of many reasons. The fact is the Conservatives have chosen who will pay for the recession and who will not shoulder the burden. It is idealogically driven. It is an economic theory. It is proven to repeated failure because of inherit flaws. Running up deficits is something Conservatives do. High big ticket purchases and little benefit to Canadian Society but great if you are well connected. Edited May 31, 2012 by madmax Quote
