Right now SNC-Lavalin is in trouble one wouldn't want their name connected to and Christian Paradis has been hot water himself recently and now Le Presse has found a connection of the two. It concerns donation fo the SNC-Lavalin executives and their wives conducting a bitz funding for Tories in Quebec ridings lost in advance. At the same time, beneficiaries have redistributed wealth to the constituents of elected memebers such as Christian Paradis, Min, of Public Works, who is now Min. of Industry.By law, one can donated up 1100.00 but Le presse has found thousands of dollars. Not sure what, if anything, Election Canada thinks about this. The following article may be in french and if you have translate, which google has, you can read the whole story. http://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/quebec-canada/politique-canadienne/201205/09/01-4523432-genereux-dons-de-cadres-de-snc-lavalin-au-parti-conservateur.php

Don't know if there is anything beyond donations. The CPC did horribly in Quebec, so it doesn't seem like any of these companies gained anything from it. There is a Winnipeg Free Press article that talks about this as well, only they go on to mention that stimulus money was transferred to the provinces and then onto the municipalities. So the connections for kick-backs was foggy. The WFP article also mentions the Liberals taking home over 400K in one riding. Don't know why it was left out of this article.

You'd have to investigate further to see if there are any connections beyond just party donations.

Down here in NS, The NDP got caught taking large donations from labour members. So this is nothing new to all political parties, unfortunately.

Yah large donations they got caught in? That whole 5,000 dollars they got and returned when it came to light a union donated twice. Real big money for the NDP eh 5000 dollars. Talk about false and stupid comparisons.

You know what punked, he NDP is made up of people, just like any other party. Some are honest, and one aren't. That's the way life goes.

I agree although comparing the Conservatives taking in 300,000 dollars in one ridding in Montreal to the NDP in NS taking in 5000 dollars from a Union (from across the province of NS no one ridding) who donated that money twice (and who returned after it was reported) is stupid Smallc. You might think they are the samething but they aren't. Go read up on the NDP union donation and come back with some facts on how these are even close to the same please.

I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is that the NDP isn't made up of a bunch of faultless saints, and that yes, some of them might even do extra legal things.

What I am saying is that someone looking to dig up some dirt to make this Conservative transaction look less corrupt comparing this to the NS NDP taking and returning one Union donation that was made twice on the order of 5000 is wrong. That is the problem around here people making false equivalences. Those two things aren't even close to being on the same level and when you actually look at the NDP story it gets even worse for being wrong.

There is a reason this poster said "Large donation" instead of 5000 dollars. This is because it wasn't a large donation.

$5000 is a pretty large donation.

It's almost 5 times the allowable limit.

Yes, I saw that Cameron. Here's what it says about stimulus projects.

This money was largely transferred to the provinces, who in turn made it available to municipalities. In other words, Ottawa was not the one cutting cheques for the companies perfoming much of the infrastructure work — that was done at the municipal or provincial level.

You can be sure reporters will leave no stone unturned. If there was anything illegal going on, we'll find out.

Not at the NS provincial level. It is the allowable limit, in fact the Union that gave the NDP 5000 dollars also gave the same donation to the Conservative party. If you don't know what you are talking about you should probably just not talk.

Yah no one in Quebec who literally owns the mayors would ever want to give large sums of money to the sitting government to make sure stimulus dollars would be funneled to those same mayors they own.

My bad. I thought the $5,000. represented a federal donation.

Stimulus funds had to trickle down to the municipalities in Quebec somehow and that process would have gone ahead regardless of who donated federally. What we have are allegations that the donations in question led to preferences in some ridings. No links have been made between the donations received by the federal Liberals and Conservatives to the projects chosen for stimulus spending. Not to mention, the provincial government played a central role in doling out the money.
