punked Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 I guess Canadians like Mulcair better then Layton. Could be I still remember when they called him Taliban Jack for suggesting something that Nato went on to do many years later. Quote
Smallc Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 Pssst...child care is only considered radical by CPC-bots. Child care isn't a federal responsibility. Quote
punked Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 Child care isn't a federal responsibility. Neither is education or Healthcare but yet the Feds play a part sooo. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 To be fair they are gung-ho about military spending when it is done right. The Ships that are going to be built in Canada that were just announced, the NDP has been talking about a national ship building strategy for like 10 years it just took the Conservatives that long to clue in there was support for it. If I'm not mistaken the NDP also supports expanding military coverage and security in the Arctic to maintain our sovereignty there. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 That must explain why they are more popular than ever. Boom goes the dynamite. Quote

You would be correct. It isn't the hate the military they just a very different vision of what the military should and shouldn't be doing and thus what the military would need and wouldn't need. By the way, that national shipbuilding strategy would also cover the merchant fleet, which would be an even larger employer than just the military vessels... Smallc Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 Neither is education or Healthcare but yet the Feds play a part sooo. The play a part in education? And they only play a part in healthcare because of an agreement that created Medicare in Canada. There was a daycare agreement, but, now there isn't, and that's fine, because it isn't somewhere the federal government has to be. Quote

Where do you think that huge chunk of University funding comes from Smallc the sky? Yes the feds play a part in education a Provincial territory. Just because you say the Feds shouldn't play role does not make that right we are a Federation the feds play role in things deal with it. Transportation as well. Quote

Transportation as well. Those all, again, come from agreements. I still don't know about education though. Is that part of the Canada Social Transfer? Or are you talking about specific grants to universities? The federal government does certainly play a role in science and technology. My point is that there isn't a federal department of education, because that isn't their responsibility. Even if they provide money, they don't deliver services. Health departments at the different levels of government do very different things, also. Quote

They give out education funding for provinces post secondary bases on provincial high school enrollment although I am unsure what agree covers it. Quote
Smallc Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 They give out education funding for provinces post secondary bases on provincial high school enrollment although I am unsure what agree covers it. I wasn't aware of that. I'd be interested to see the info, if you can find it. Quote

I will see what I can do, I hear people in NS complain all the time when I visit about this because per capita they have many many more university students then say Ontario but get much much less money. cybercoma Posted April 7, 2012 Author Report Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Leger has NDP in a statistical tie for the lead as well. http://www.canada.com/news/dead+heat+with+Conservatives/6423028/story.html The NDP comes out with 33 per cent of voter intention and the Conservatives with 32 per cent when the percentage of undecided, unwilling to vote and unwilling to answer are distributed among all the parties, the poll finds.... “We see that support for the Conservatives is ... down nearly eight points since the last election,” he said. “So it’s a fairly significant drop for them.” Edited April 7, 2012 by cybercoma Quote
