j44
I've been meaning to start a thread on China considering its growing importance and the upcoming transition. With the recent 'Coup' (ie. the sacking of Bo Xilai, a increasingly powerful party boss) now seems like a good time. I found this article very interesting and it shed some light on some past grudges that I wasn't aware of. These type of power struggles never seem to go in the right direction. But in my opinion this turned out well. Great read. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/03/29/the_revenge_of_wen_jiabao Edited March 31, 2012 by j44

Post To The Left
Something definitely seems to be going on. Now they're rounding up bloggers who have started reporting on the supposed "coup". Censorship in China: Crackdown on bloggers as rumours of coup swirl Six people are held and 16 websites shut down as political crisis grips Beijing after sacking http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/apr/01/china-crackdown-bloggers-coup-rumours And did anyone hear about the British guy, Neil Heywood, who died under mysterious circumstances? A supposed non-drinker dies of alcohol poisoning then the body is cremated before an investigation? Neil Heywood, the Briton whose death in China is at the center of a Chinese political crisis, told friends he feared for his safety because he had fallen out with the wife of a senior Communist Party leader, according to people familiar with the matter. When Mr. Heywood was found dead in his hotel room in Chongqing in November, local authorities swiftly cremated his body without an autopsy after saying the death was due to excessive alcohol consumption, according to British officials ... Many unanswered questions about the case remain, such as why a quick cremation without an autopsy took place when many of Mr. Heywood's friends say he was either a teetotaler or only a light drinker. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303816504577313410699114668.html

Post To The Left
Looks like the British guy is tied into all the shit going down in China: Mr Bo, 62, was once tipped as a future leader. But he has now been removed from his posts on the Communist Party's hugely powerful 25-member Politburo, and the 300-member Central Committee. His wife, Gu Kailai, is being investigated in connection with the death of British businessman Neil Heywood, Chinese authorities have also announced. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17673498
