Did any of you know that the PM, whom ever they be, gets additional $100,000. in bonus when they turn 65?? The Liberals want it gone and the NDP want another department separate from government to look after the wages, pensions etc. I like both ideas.

So?

Well maybe Harper will still be serving in 2023. Who knows?

Well, he's the PM of Canada. It's actually a rather special position.

And the MP from Calgary Southwest as well.

Gordon Campbell Taxed the middleclass to death..

That party is going to get the kick it deserves...

Agreed. I'm rooting for the NDP. Every time the NDP gets elected, skilled unemployed workers flee the province in search of a crust of bread as the economy shrinks.

We can use them in Alberta, they are welcome here.

The government should do something.

The Commons are having their debates on the budget and the NDP have been talking about the last 48 hours and they are getting e-mails from Canadians from ALL parties and some conservatives have said they won't vote Tory in the next election. The NDP also pointed out how many job losses are going to hit Canadians by province. All are being hit, but Ontario and Quebec have the largest hits. Ontario have 26,155 gone by the budget and 18,000 in the private sector, mostly around Toronto. We all think its just the Fed workers being hit but its trickling down to the private sector also.

The Tories idea of going from 65 to 67 for OAS, and that other countries were doing it, well, the NDP pointed out that yes, some yesterday were doing that but they were going from 60 or 62 TO 65 not 67. So again, the Tories telling half truths.

Like the massive numbers of Newfoundlanders who work elsewhere, thanks to their succession of NDP governme....oops.

Ok, that's an exception. Here in NB, our finances are approaching catastrophic levels, and that can all be blamed on the NDP...er, wait....

Seeing outmigration in Newfoundland and Labrador has stopped your point pretty much sucks.

You mean the PM allowance that Bob Rae blamed Mulroney for?

In what they’re calling an “honest mistake,” the Liberals apologized on Tuesday for accusing former prime minister Brian Mulroney of bringing in a generous retirement allowance for prime ministers that was actually implemented under Lester Pearson in 1963 and revised by Pierre Trudeau’s government 11 years later.

In a media scrum on Friday, Liberal interim leader Bob Rae suggested section 48 of the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act, which provides the prime minister with an allowance equal to two-thirds of his or her salary at age 65, was brought in by Mulroney’s Progressive Conservative government just as Mulroney was leaving office.

“There’s a separate allowance for the prime minister, for a retiring prime minister that was brought in in 1992 for some particular reason. I don’t know why that would be,” Rae said Friday. He repeated the assertion on Monday.

---

The original provision containing the PM’s retirement allowance was approved on Aug. 2, 1963, under Liberal prime minister Lester Pearson. The last significant amendment — to lower the age at which the allowance kicks in from 70 to 65 — was instituted in 1974 under prime minister Pierre Trudeau, another Liberal.

Only sucks if, when it was occurring (and it was occurring big-time, as you are doubtless aware), the Nfld Government was made up of those job-chasin' Ndpers.

Since that wasn't the case, my point remains exactly correct.

Similarly, I'd hazard a guess that those fleeing dismal job-prospects in NB for richer pastures haven't been impoverished by the New Brunswick NDP.

But rather by the rotating Liberal/PC axis.
