Guest Peeves Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) A) It seems the church of LDS are baptizing Jews and others such as Stalin or Hitler as Mormons so they can go to heaven. Now I think it's repugnant to baptize a dead Anne Frank now some 8-9 times as a Mormon. That's rather crass I suggest. They have now posthumously baptized Daniel Pearl.I suspect that would be an affront not just to the family but to friends, Jews and countrymen don't you? http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/mormons-posthumously-baptize-daniel-pearl-jewish-reporter-killed-terrorists-2002-article-1.1031288?localLinksEnabled=false B] Christian doctrine is for anyone qualifying to go to heaven they must accept Jesus(?) (Don't quote me, that's just my understanding.) So I worry irrationally of course, which church is better or worse to the non follower? Christians would deny their heaven to the godless non believers in Jesus the messiah. Mormons, convert any and all the dead posthumously that they might share their heavenly bliss. I think Muslims have requirements as well that would eliminate my chances. Something about accepting Allah and Mo as the last rep of g-d. So are we all, we non believers going to miss the ascension to heave and..........? Or are we going straight to hell in a hand basket? What's your expectation? Oh That's C) in case you're uncertain of B)or C) Me, ? I'm going to the Twilight Zone. Edited March 1, 2012 by Peeves Quote

kimmy Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 One of the cool things about being an atheist is that you can just laugh about this "posthumous baptism" instead of being offended. Ok, the Mormons are putting on their magic underwear and performing voodoo rituals to try to direct souls to Mormon heaven instead of Jewish heaven? That's... well, that's super for them, I guess. I hope they have lots of fun doing that. Isn't the Mormon heaven supposed to be another planet, and if so shouldn't they be using rocket ships instead of magic water to get people there? So... people are apparently livid that Anne Frank has been posthumously baptized... "I am a Holocaust survivor. It is so offensive in the sense that Holocaust victims were killed solely because they were Jews. And here comes the Mormon church taking away their Jewishness," said Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. "It's like killing them twice." ...but they really shouldn't be. To suggest that these people have the power to take away Anne Frank's Jewishness is just silly. They can't. They're not wizards or angels, they're just a bunch of idiots sitting around performing ridiculous rituals. I gave up trying to cast magic spells when I was a young child... but I guess some people don't grow out of things. Unless... Ann Frank's latest diary entry. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Guest Peeves Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 What exactly did you want me to comment on here, Peeves? They may as well be having seances. How does this relate at all to the religious arbitration thread? You take exception to posts on Muslims, accuse me of posting unduly on Muslims. Yet you ignore any otherwise on other religions, here on Christians and LDS. What am I to think? Oh I know, you want any criticism of Islam to be muzzled...that's the behaviorof an apologist and enabler. However, I wasn't really considering that you might have any comment on a thread under a rubric of "Ethical Issues." Under the Forum for "Moral, Religious and Political Philosophy" "How does this relate at all to the religious arbitration thread?" * That's how. Most anyone else would comprehend that. On the other hand some others seem to have an opinion on the ethics of the behavior of the LDS and Christians and occasionally on Muslims as well. I think they, the LDS are out of line. Harmless perhaps in the scheme of things, but ethically wrong. * eth·ics [eth-iks] Show IPA plural noun 1. ( used with a singular or plural verb ) a system of moral principles: the ethics of a culture. 2. the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.: medical ethics; Christian ethics. 3. moral principles, as of an individual: His ethics forbade betrayal of a confidence. 4. ( usually used with a singular verb ) that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. Won't stop until the dead are all saved. Excerpt. "The Mormon church is putting up what it says is a "new technological barrier" in an effort to crack down on baptisms by proxy on well-known Jewish figures, a practice that received a burst of media attention recently after slain journalist Daniel Pearl and Anne Frank were discovered to be on the baptism lists. But, as the Salt Lake Tribune reports, the new firewall won't only prevent overzealous Mormons from violating a church policy against the practice—it also blocks the chief whistle-blower who exposed the controversial baptisms from accessing the LDS database."
