Smallc
I know that the government has been working on this for a while. It looks like the first part of this project might actually be moving forward: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/02/14/john-ivison-ottawa-sets-sights-on-armed-drones/ Canada also plans to later procure a large, surveillance UAV. Guest Derek L
Some more, uninformed media speculation on the F-35.…..The USAF is reducing it’s purchase of pre-production aircraft next year from 24 aircraft to 19, well the USN is increasing it’s purchase of the “B” by several tails……..The sky is falling!!!! (As I clearly “predicted” a few months ago) After reading those misinformed/slanted statements within the article, I tend to pay not much heed to the rest…….. Smallc
Canada, though, has been looking to buy two types of UAVs for quite a few years now, and the program has actually fallen behind, so I can believe that this is happening. But there are many more priorities in need of addressing prior to a tactical UCAV……We’ve also kicked the tires on LHDs and MLRS……but all these toys will need either an increase to the budget or a cut to something else……

Smallc
No, no, I'm saying that the JUSTAS program, which deals with UAVs, is part of the Canada First Defence Strategy. Those things you're talking about aren't.
Smallc
damn! Did not read about that in Bill C-30... get those porn-dogs Vic! The large, surveillance UAV, is part of both JUSTAS, and the program to replace the CP-140 Aurora. The program will be for 6 - 8 UAVs and 10 - 12 manned aircraft. Wild Bill
After reading those misinformed/slanted statements within the article, I tend to pay not much heed to the rest…….. This sort of thing is becoming quite common in the MSM. There was a time when reporters came from all walks of life and usually were the type of person who who practiced an interest in many different things. This gave them a generalist's view of most issues. They wrote pertinent articles on many topics. They knew enough to recognize when they DIDN'T know something and would do a bit of research before writing. Today, reporters come barreling out of specialty journalism programs from Ryerson or Queens, not knowing how to put a plug on a lamp or even how an incandescent light bulb works! They've never even made a paper airplane yet they will write articles like those mentioned here! It's kind of scary, when you start to think about it. Too true……I won’t just disparage the MSM, but those in many levels of Government also……..Just reading about the Crown suggesting that fellow who’s house was firebombed , had a wheel gun that automatically ejects the casings was purely laughable………Or the other day when the RCMP located that suspect’s truck in Alberta and found a .50 Cal rifle…….CTV was quick to report that .50 Cal rifles are illegal in Canada……. It cuts for all subjects, whatever your political slant……..Guns, oil, healthcare, farming, the environment, the military……… My wife won’t allow me to watch CSI with her because I’m quick to point out the factual errors relating to ballistics…Call me a wet blanket…. It's everywhere, Derek! At least shows like Star Trek understood the need for "technobabble" to explain away inconsistencies with physics as we know it. Last week I was watching that show "Fringe" and they included a bit where one of their stars was trying to find a more powerful portable generator, in order to boost the power of his "Cell phone/walkie-talkie" style radio! As a techie, this was such a blatant boner that it ruined much of the rest of the plot for me! It was like watching the computer nerd lady on Criminal Minds do amazing stuff on her keyboard and suddenly she has a guest star assistant - Gilligan from Gilligan's Island! It's just poor writing and direction! In this day and age it's unforgivable but sadly, it's beginning to go without notice. No wonder the Chinese are cleaning our clocks! As a society, we are no longer smart enough to compete. Edited February 16, 2012 by Wild Bill

Who needs a fancy practical education when we can have philosophy, journalism, and social sciences grads running our country and government? They have to be made in canada otherwise it is just a ripoff for the taxpayers. If Canada allows itself to continue to be subjected to foreign procurements it is just flushing money down the toilet in an ever increasing inability to create its own self defence. Canada must protect and develop its Military Industrial Complex. Edited March 17, 2012 by MACKER

Battletoads
Defence of Canada, and our interests abroad. Canada can't afford to be an interventionist nation, not unless we want to end up drowning in debt. Not that facts every stopped a conservative.
