CPCFTW Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 It's a good plan. The NDP has been slowly creeping towards the middle over the last 20 years anyway. It questions the LPC's purpose. If you're right in the centre, then it's hard to stand for anything. You're just the party of weak convictions. The natural response to this would be for the libs to become fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I think we'd have a three way dead heat in that case. I don't understand what made the liberals so leftist. They seem to be aligning party policy with McGuinty.. I suppose because he won 3 elections.. but I don't think socialism is strongly supported on the fed level. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 You're making two very big assumptions here. 1) A minority is going to fix all of the problems his/her minority group faces by becoming party leader. 2) That people who are not from that minority group will not and cannot be sensitive to minority issues. Peggy Nash is not the ideal candidate for the NDP for all the reasons I've already gone through. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean that she address women's issues any better than any of the male candidates or even at all. Since you're the one that brought up African-Americans voting for Barack Obama, what exactly has he done for them since taking office? The answer is not much. Its is you who is making the assumptions here writing that you somehow know what I am thinking! Minority groups in positions of leadership is paramount in destroying stereo-types typical in racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. behaviour! Race/sex/orientation relations cannot advance without such participaction in leadership roles. Barack Obama just being the president of the US is a tremendous boost to the advancement of minorities! He does not have to indroduce new legislation, just has to be a good politician and role model!Margaret Thatcher, Kim Cambell and Hillary Clinton played very important roles aswell. j44 Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 That in itself is a racist comment you are making buddy and you should be banned! WWWTT Quote

WWWTT The head of our government is a woman and her representative has been a woman numerous times over the last 30 years or so. The NDP has more female candidates in elections, as a proportion of the total running, than any other party. Peggy Nash just isn't an ideal leader at this point in time. It has nothing to do with her gender and suggesting that women will vote for her over all the other male candidates just because she's female is a broad generalization that does not necessarily have any basis in reality. If it did, Alexa McDonough would have been much more successful as party leader than she was and the Green Party would have more seats. Edited March 9, 2012 by cybercoma Quote

WWWTT Report me, but I'm not sure how my comments were the slightest bit racist. edit: I had to go back and see what it was you were talking about. You suggest that I'm ignoring the plight of women and minority races. This is something you read into my post, rather than anything that I actually said that's racist. Meanwhile, I've been one of the most vocal supporters of "women's" issues (which really should just be called issues, as they affect all of us) on this forum. Namely, I'm the one that started a thread dedicated to such things in the Moral/Ethics forum. You seem to be jilted since I don't share your penchant for Peggy Nash. Although I do support her progressive values, I wouldn't reduce her to the level that you did. Particularly, saying she should be nominated for the leadership because it will court the female vote having a female leader. This didn't work with Alexa McDonough and it doesn't work for Elizabeth May. Women don't vote strictly because of a leader's gender. Edited March 9, 2012 by cybercoma Quote

WWWTT I’d bet you are the only one that thinks cybercoma is ‘belittling’ anyone or anything. Read his comments again: “You suggest that I'm ignoring the plight of women and minority races. Can you prove that his past posts don’t support women’s issues? If so find them and post them. You didn’t even acknowledge his comments. You cherry pick. You never have anything to back up what you say. You read someone’s comments, interpret them incorrectly and then proceed to repeat your interpretation over and over again. I still haven’t heard you say anything to even back your Nash support up other than that she is a women and a good negotiator. Saying that she is the best doesn’t make her so. Why is she the best? Which of her policies do you agree with? There are many NDP supporters on here and I don't think one thinks you are right with Nash but you continue on and on. You even attack NDP supporters when they disagree with you. You attacked me for being a conservative just because I said Nash wouldn't make the best leader and didnt do well in the debates and then when I and several other people pointed out that there was no proof to back up your claim (I’ve never voted C by the way) or that you were confusing me with another poster you not only did not apologize but you made it a point to say that I didn’t deserve one. I could be wrong but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one person come to your aid in an argument yet you continue on and on, never come up with a sound argument and then condescendingly call people ‘buddy’ and say people are racist with absolutely no proof. WWWTT I don't belittle the importance of having strong female role-models. This is the part of your argument that enters the realm of fantasy. Peggy Nash is not my choice for leader of the NDP, even considering that she can be a role model for women entering politics. I believe that Mulcair is a better choice. The stupidest part about all of this is that Peggy Nash is actually my second choice. Quote
punked Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 Calm down, you guys are all getting to excited about a decision that isn't really that big. Nash, Topp, Mulcair would all be great leaders fact is they would all have the same policies so while it matters, it does not matter to the point of getting worked up about. The NDP has always been about a strong base party, never about a leader. Quote
cybercoma Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 The only thing that has me excited is being wrongly accused of being racist and sexist. Although this forum has always cracked me up like that. Some posters are off calling me a feminazi, while others call me sexist. Some call me an apologist, while others call me racist. Quote
