sharkman Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 You have a point, and yet his numbers by the all star break are usually up there with the top 5. I have no idea why he collapsed so badly last June, but if he does it again his position as a starter with the Canucks will be taken over by Corey. Quote
guyser Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 ..., but if he does it again his position as a starter with the Canucks will be taken over by Corey. He wont be on the bench. He will be trade bait if that occurs. He should be coveted by someone willing to give up to get and thats the only way I see him out of Van. I think his mere presence would be toxic for the rest of the team, and if the starter got injured the other teams fans would have a blast. Heck even I chanted 'Miller Miller' last night at the game and I think Miller is the best goalie in the world right now. Quote
sharkman Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 If he becomes trade bait, who would want his huge contract and play off record? Quote
guyser Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 If he becomes trade bait, who would want his huge contract and play off record? What huge contract? Van would have to eat half of it. Happens all the time. Quote
sharkman Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Which would hurt them in the salary cap, or do I have that wrong? They already overpaid for Ballard, and have to give raises to several guys coming up for renewal so i don't see them being willing to pay half of Luongo's contract except under extreme conditions. i can't imagine any. I think some of the hit goes to the cap in Van, but not all of it. So, he is signed for another 5 ( or longer) at $5.33M and it would be hard to move him, but if he tanks again, he wont be able to play in or for Van as the fans will vilify him. And , dont forget the league is full of guys who have been overpaid and are sucking. Essentially then the trade would be one headache for anothers , cap be damned. Guys like Penner.....Bufyglien (sp? Bufflin).... Quote
sharkman Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I guess you're right about the fans, I just hope it doesn't come to that because it would be an ugly thing all around. Quote
The_Squid Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 What huge contract? Van would have to eat half of it. Happens all the time. If a team trades a player they are not still responsible to pay any portion of their contract. Luongo's contract would be a huge burden in trying to get a deal done. Canucks are stuck with him. Quote
The_Squid Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Byuflugien? He's a good D man with 24 points in 35 games. I don't know what he gets paid, but he is a great presence on the blue line. Quote

The_Squid Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 DId that change in the new Cba? I think you may confusing some of the rules around sending a player to the minors and the salary rules with trading players between teams. When a team trades for a player, it assumes all salary and salary cap obligations. The player's old team cannot "pick up" a portion of the contract as part of the deal. http://proicehockey.about.com/od/learnthegame/a/nhl_salary_cap.htm Quote
sharkman Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Couldn't a team make cash a part of the deal? Like we'll take Luongo for player X, but we want 3 million this year and 2.5 million next year too. Quote

sharkman Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Okay, I guess that tightens things up then for trading undesirables like Ballard. Quote
