It seems that the only time I hear about NORAD is around Christmas time.

And they make this hoax claim that they are tracking Santa Claus leaving the North Pole.

My big question is where was NORAD during 9/11?

How usefull was NORAD at tracking actual threats?

Is Santa Claus a threat?

Better yet is NORAD worth the money?

The NORAD Santa Claus watch is ...a hoax? Wow, you really blew the lid off that one, Wolf Blitzer!

As I understand it, NORAD is there to detect objects approaching North American airspace, not track domestic flights that go off course. They couldn't have stopped 9/11. Some other agency might have, had they acted in time, but that's not NORAD's role.

I can see thinking is not one of your strong points kimmy.

The north pole or Santas workshop is supposed to be in the Canadian north.

And when I last checked Canada is part of North America.

So why would they make a hoax track of an flying object originating within North America?

Under international law, nobody "owns" the North Pole or the area immediately surrounding it. Furthermore, it's not a hoax. Many years ago, I actually saw Santa flying in the sky with his reindeer. Well, actually I didn't quite see them - but mt Dad did. He said I just missed him. As I remember, that happened about 5 or 6 years in a row. I never doubted my Dad. My grand-daughter recently had a first-hand sighting. So let's put an end to all this talk about a hoax. Thank you NORAD.

I think NORAD is worth the money. I used to know a guy who once worked there years ago in the 80's. He never said much about it other than that they see everything and they are always ahead of the times in technology and at times the intensity and stress was so high it would have made a good movie.

I could explain to you in detail what NORAD does everyday, and what it's limitations are and how that relates to 9/11, but I don't think you would listen.

Even if he did listen, he certainly wouldn't understand.

Oh so you openly admit that NORAD has limitations.

Well lets discuss them.

What makes you think that I am not open to discussion?

Why are you using the word "listen"?

I've seen Wild Bill and NWRS use this word and it is improper since not anyone on this forum is capable of making any audible sounds.

And you claim "I would not understand".

Its odd to make such a claim before even trying to explain your position or the importance of NORAD.

Is this not a discussion/debate forum?

Actually I would think it should be against the rules to add coments for the sole purpose to discourage debate.

It's a discussion/debate forum for people who want to actually discuss/debate intelligently. If you wanted to be considered for such discussions, and not merely as a forum troll, you wouldn't start threads with opening posts like the one above, nor would you spam the board with garbage replies.

So in other words you do not have anything to add.

Ok fine then just say so.

I'm sorry it took this long for our remarks to make that clear to you. For future reference, understand that the quality of the responses you get will depend largely on the merits of your posts. So far you might have found that a lot of us don't take you very seriously.

I suppose I should have used the words, read, understand, believe, accept, trust, etc. But you got the point, so what are the 'rules' do you deserve some respect above and beyond the tone of your posts? You don't think that NORAD does anything useful, ok, you're wrong, but when you start up the way you did about tracking santa what level of intelligent response did you expect?

I guess your comfortable with incompetance, blunders and wasted tax payer dollars.

And it doesn't bother you in the least that billions of dollars have bein spent on an organization to fight shadows and phantom threats.Meanwhile the safety of the world was jeopordized by a threat that somehow was never realized.

But oh wait here comes the real zinger.Come every Christmas eve NORAD releases a report they are tracking freekin Santa Claus!?!Santa Claus!?!

I'm sorry but I am not comfortable with seeing billions spent on inefective programs.I'm just not the type of person that feels OK is good enough for the safety of our future.

Actually I think I errored.

There are two north poles, magnetic and geographical.

Geographical north or 90' north is pretty much the centre of the arctic ocean. But magnetic north up until a decade or so ago was always part of the Canadian north.

The Europeans in story have said Santas workshop is somewhere in northern Scandanavia,Canadians story say the Canadian north and I have heard a couple of American stories talk about his workshop in northern Alaska.(Canada post has even designated Santas workshop a postal code H0H 0H0)

I find it insulting that NORAD was incapable(for whatever reason) in preventing such a tragic event as 9/11.And continues to be incapable to prevent such an event, but makes hoax claim to be tracking Santa.

I wonder how the victims surviving families feel about NORAD?

The level of pedantry you display in this thread is ridiculous. Before the 9/11 attacks, commercial flights were not deemed to be threats, and so NORAD did not maintain active tracks on domestic airliners.

In your haste to find something to be upset about you maybe forgot to do some basic research.

It probably took a single employee about 8 hours to make that Santa website. NORAD is a large operation, not three guys in a basement. Making a Santa-tracking website is not such a drain on their resources that it detracts from their defense of North America's skies. Stop acting like a child.

Really? How do you know this?Or are you making this up?

Are you privelaged to top secret information?

This thread has attracted absolutely zero legitamite support for NORAD!Only opinion for why it is necessary!

Therefore I must conclude that NORAD is absolutely useless. And is only good for tracking Santa Claus!

Aswell I believe NORAD was set up to make people feel safe against the fantom fears the government in the past said we should be scared about.

I guess there is still many people who can't let go of the fear the government/media brainwashed into them.

I guess I am over-reacting when planes smash into commercial buildings causing billions of dollars of damage killing thousands of people and bringing the world on the edge of world war three!

Your answer sounds like something like"We should not ask any questions, never question the government and never hold our institutions liable for the failings".

NORAD was set up in the 1950s to counter the very real threat of a Soviet attack, either by long range bombers or ICBMs. Clearly that threat has diminished, but I still think NORAD serves a useful purpose beyond tracking Santa Claus.

Never heard about ICAO?

Read this

http://www.wing.com.ua/images/stories/library/ovd/9433.pdf

NORAD was helpless against 9/11 highjackers due to existing at that moment international treaties.

No I hav not heard of ICAO.

Thanks for the link, this site has many pages so it will take some time to go through it.

So now we're back to the original thread,if NORAD can not help with the real threats then is it worth it.
