Post To The Left Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) It's been a scandalous couple of days for Israel. First Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government slammed American Jewish cluture as corrupt and urged them to come home to Israel, the land of purity. Then in incredible move the Israeli government is posed to launch an assault on freedom of the press in Israel. In a move right out of Chavez or Mussolini's handbook Netanyahu is aimed his sights at the Media. His Israeli government is set to approve a set of laws that will severely limit the free press as well attack media outlets that don't toe the "official" line. Already one station has been kicked off the air. It has gotten so bad that even America has become alarmed. Already upset with Israel's increasing moves against women's rights in Israel, such as segregating women in public or even in the former secular bastion the exalted IDF. Clinton has come out publically against attack on Israel freedoms and that Clinton is 'concerned over Israeli democracy' She criticised recent attempts by the centre right-wing coalition to restrict donations to non-government organisations. And she said attempts in some parts of Jerusalem to separate men and women on buses was "reminiscent of Rosa Parks". She also expressed her shock at incidents pointing to a growing discrimination against Israeli women. This included separate seating areas for women on some Jerusalem buses, which she compared with the 1950s era of Rosa Parks, the black American woman who refused to give up her bus seat for white passengers. She said the case of some IDF soldiers who refused to remain for a performance by female singers was reminiscent of the situation in Iran. Hillary Clinton 'concerned over Israeli democracy' And she should know since the Jewish press deemed just the sight of her, a woman, as unclean and edited her out of the iconic Bin Laden photo. Where is this all going to end? Jewish women forced to were head to toe covering so as to not offend the JudeoFascist religious extremists? Edited January 22, 2012 by Post To The Left Quote

This is the most common thing you hear when you talk to Israelis travelling outside the country. They just don't relate at all to the Jewish extremists who are blocking a peace settlement. The problem though is this generation of like-minded Israelis, like the rest of the industrial world, aren't having a bunch of kids. Mean while the religious extremists that demand women be covered and segregated from men in public are breeding like rabbits. Quote
bud Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 it's gotten out of hand: In recent weeks, the central Israel town of Beit Shemesh has seen increased violence by ultra-religious men, attacking women and girls, who they feel have been dressed in an immodest manner. These men have resorted to cursing, spitting, and even rock-throwing. Signs have been hung in the town center instructing women not to “dally in the street.” link a 8-year-old girl who is afraid to go to her school – located a mere 300 meters from her house – because of the violence she had experienced by men, who felt the religious girl’s attire was not modest enough. i guess, at least, they're not throwing acid in the faces of these girls like happened in afghanistan. I know its getting bad! Not Afghan bad but bad. Here is another heart breaking story of women facing oppression in the "New Israel" ...an ultra-Orthodox passenger directed her to the back of the bus where, she noticed, the women were sitting separately. “He was actually addressing my husband, who boarded with me,” she recounted to Newsweek. “He wouldn’t even talk to me.” Weinstein lives in Beit Shemesh, a town of both religious and nonreligious Jews where the population of ultra-Orthodox—the most theologically rigid of Judaism’s denominations—has surged in recent years.Instead of complying, Weinstein took a seat several rows behind the driver and held her ground, channeling the spirit of that American civil-rights icon from more than a half century ago. A native of New York City who describes herself as modern Orthodox, Weinstein immigrated to Israel earlier this year to live among “like-minded Jews,” she says, not extremists. When the anger around her felt menacing—one woman charged from the back of the bus to berate her for not showing sufficient respect—Weinstein clutched a ring of keys in her purse and prepared to swing it if things turned violent. After several tense minutes, she got off at her stop and wept. http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/01/01/israel-s-ultra-orthodox-problem.print.html Truly heartbreaking to watch Israel go down the road of religious extremism as it will be the downfall of a truly great country, Israel. A population that refuses to work (65 percent of working-age men in the ultra-Orthodox community don’t have jobs and don’t want them), that make up 21% of the present school population, and don't know how to work a TV or computer. All they want to do is collect welfare, breed and threaten women. There is no way Israel can support its incredible first class army and these leaches on society. Guest Manny Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Well, I'm not one to usually go on an anti-Israeli rant or anything, but I found this article a bit disturbing- Israel considers jail terms for Nazi gibes JERUSALEM — A proposed bill would make it a crime in Israel to criticize people by comparing them to Nazis. The draft legislation would impose penalties of up to six months in jail and a $25,000 fine for using the word "Nazi" or Holocaust symbols for purposes other than teaching, documentation or research. The draft legislation passed its first hurdle Monday when Cabinet ministers approved it. It now goes to the full parliament for a vote. The bill was proposed after ultra-Orthodox demonstrators set off a furor by dressing young boys as Nazi concentration camp inmates during a protest against what they said was incitement against their community. Protesters have also called police "Nazis." The bill has been criticized by civil rights groups that see it as infringing on freedom of expression. Jail for just saying "Naz_"? What the hell Quote

All they want to do is collect welfare, breed and threaten women. There is no way Israel can support its incredible first class army and these leaches on society. What we see in Israel is the product of decades of deal-making in their rep by pop political system. Decades of bending over backward to accommodate religious extremists with the result that their numbers keep growing even while they do no work and generally do not serve in the military either. As pointed out in a recent Post article Israel recently held a convention of gynecology doctors and specialists. No women were permitted to speak! It would be funny if it weren't so sad. The women doctors were allowed to sit -- off on their own, but not speak from the stage or to the audience. And who is the Israeli health minister? Why it's Netanyahu himself! And why is he the health minister? Because the actual minster of health is the representative of one of those freaky ultra-ultra groups which refuses to actually take a seat in cabinet because by doing so they would be acknowledging the legitimacy of the Israeli state - which they don't recognize! But never mind, Netanyahu, in his deal making, found a workaround. He named the religious wacko 'deputy minster of health' so he runs the ministry of health, but Netanyahu is the titular minister so he can answer questions in parliament about the subject. Every single seat is needed in their pizza pie parliament to form a majority, so these tiny religious parties can make people like Netanyahu dance to their tune. Meanwhile, along with the burgeoning population of religious wack jobs, the Arab population also continues to explode. I don't see good things in Israel's future. Even during the Jim Crow laws of America's past it was freer than Muslim countries now, yet that doesn't make the attacks against women in Israel and the increasing degradation of Jewish women to second class citizens anymore right. Just because some other country attacks women or minorities doesn't make it OK in Israel to attack women and marginalize them into the shadows of Jewish society . Guest Peeves Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) Appears to be. Only an antisemitic Jew hater would protest attacks against women in Israel. Israel is certainly as subject to criticism as any other, however, thee is far more criticism going on re; Israel than is warranted for a free democratic state when the Islamic countries are behaving as they are. There is much to think about when anyone is critical of Israel. Israel faces threats most of us will never face. If they make ONE error they may be eradicated. It's sooooo easy to point a finger at Israel when we have no life or consequence to be at risk, and few with ANY HISTORY like the Jews then and now facing an outspoken genocide threat. Few countries are constantly and repeatedly singled out by the UN and it's overwhelming Islamic make up. Few countries are surrounded by declared enemies, some of whom have attacked Israel in their recent history and continue to do so or fund those that will , or that supply them with missiles When you face a rocket attack or a bloody kidnapping or a martyr murdering bomber sanctioned by your religious radical enemy, then you might give more thought to your position. Israel is made up of immigrants from varied walks of life and by a varied religious society from the ultra orthodox to the secular. Israel is a new country still in formative stages and reliant on a mixed bag of politics. So certainly, criticize, but on a proportional basis to the rest of the world's countries. And, when you judge Israel's treatment of women consider the context and weigh your criticism within the context of the countries view of women..Golda was after all a woman. Has your own had such in that position of authority..leadership? Israel has a sect that would relegate women to an inferior position that is true, but there's a difference between Israel and Israeli women than Arab and Arab women. Israelis, particular Israeli women are not about to lie down and accept it. A Jew, a female Jew whether in Israel or elsewhere will kick the shit out of any male, ultra orthodox or not at the drop of a hat, and Israeli women ARE responding as we write. Those thinking Israel is headed anywhere but to more success are missing the Jews response in history. They will as their will, be fine unless there is a threat from without that they cannot survive. Like a nuke, from a government that for years threatened their existence. Let's show some balance here and direct our attacks and criticism proportionate to Israel's neighbors. BTW I too do criticize Israel. I have written the Knesset. Israel is the ONLY country in the region where citizens both Arabs and Jews can and do vociferously criticize openly or even dare to! Guest Peeves Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) "other countries are worse" is not a valid excuse to roll-back women's rights in your own country.... Yes it is. Women are not going to lose rights in Israel, a country that has had Golda Meir, who became the fourth Prime Minister of the State of Israel. Jews other than a few extremists, have a distinct respect for Jewish women (if not a fear ) Shit an Arab woman has more rights in Israel than most anywhere else! Besides you may certainly cherry pick faults within Israel, I do too, but I suggest that none in Western democracies can understand the Israeli psyche, since we don't face Israel's problems. Unlike Islam's Koran, which commands Muslims to force the entire planet to submit to literal control by Islam, the Jewish Torah promises the children of Israel a modest and reasonable allotment of land. Israel in RED , is a democratic nation 1/19th the size of California, surrounded by 22 hostile Arab/Islamic dictatorships with 640 times her size, 60 times her population and ALL the oil. How dare Arab propagandists call Israel "expansionist!" And how dare anyone believe them! How can Israel, which occupies one-sixth of one percent of the lands called Arab, be responsible for the political dissatisfaction of 22 Arab countries? How can the 13 million Jews in the world (almost 5 million fewer than they were in 1939!) be blamed for the problems of the 300 million Arabs, who have brotherly ties to 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide? Israel is an oasis of Western Democracy and Judeo/Christian morality in the middle of an otherwise totalitarian Arab/Muslim Middle East. For over 55 years since she became a nation in 1948, Israel has sought peaceful coexistence with neighbors dedicated to her destruction. Thus far only Egypt and Jordan have formalized a peace treaty. In reality, these two peace treaties are are questionable. http://www.masada2000.org/geography.html Edited January 14, 2012 by Peeves Quote

You try and justify their plight by arguing "Hey at least you don't have it as bad as Arab women!" But the question you ignore at the expense of women in Israel is: for how long? For how long will women in Israel be free, for how long will a women be able to Prime Minister. How can a women compete for office if Jewish extremists won't allow women's faces to be shown on billboards or even ads? No matter how much you try and cover it up it doesn't change that Israel has a growing sickness. I mean look at this shit: the Israeli Health Ministry awarded a prize to a pediatrics professor for her book on hereditary diseases common to Jews, her experience at the awards ceremony has become a rallying cry.The professor, Channa Maayan, knew that the acting health minister, who is ultra-Orthodox, and other religious people would be in attendance. So she wore a long-sleeve top and a long skirt. But that was hardly enough. Not only did Dr. Maayan and her husband have to sit separately, as men and women were segregated at the event, but she was instructed that a male colleague would have to accept the award for her because women were not permitted on stage. Organizers of a conference last week on women’s health and Jewish law barred women from speaking from the podium, leading at least eight speakers to cancel; ultra-Orthodox men spit on an 8-year-old girl whom they deemed immodestly dressed; the chief rabbi of the air force resigned his post because the army declined to excuse ultra-Orthodox soldiers from attending events where female singers perform; protesters depicted the Jerusalem police commander as Hitler on posters because he instructed public bus lines with mixed-sex seating to drive through ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods; vandals blacked out women’s faces on Jerusalem billboards. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/15/world/middleeast/israel-faces-crisis-over-role-of-ultra-orthodox-in-society.html Edited January 16, 2012 by Post To The Left Quote

Apartheid Jimmy Carter bull shit. Join his club. The term 'threat' is subjective. I agree that a sect in Israel choses to subject women to an inferior role to the ultra orthodox men. The threat is very minor at best since no Israeli woman would accept that role unless they accept the ultra-orthodox sect's tenets. That would be few indeed. And, the threat would be one of being put in a diminished role, even in their few cases not from any violence or physical abuse. That any believe otherwise is nonsensical. That any think there is a serious 'threat' is ridiculous. Human rights are paramount in Israel where gays parade openly and criticism of the government is public and vociferous from many quarters. Israeli women are not put at risk from any potential threat and exaggerating the situation to serve propaganda piece is disingenuous given the fact that there are no threats of any consequence. There are no women threatened to any degree worth your concern. There are FULL and equal human rights in Israel, and, there is a very immediate and vocal response to any 'rights' issue in Israel by any affected, without fear, including women, gays or others. Israel contrary to those that sling mud, is very much alive, very much a democracy, and very much a superior state for all citizen's rights in the area. Quote

I don't support misogyny anywhere, but let's keep a perspective on the degree of chauvinism or misogyny. Quote
