Argus Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Might... might... we're talking about an open forum where people are talking about improving government here, not private emails... you really are interested in keeping the status quo intact as long as possible. You don't even know such a forum exists. And if it does, and its information was made public, I guarantee you there'd be no more open discussions. Public servants don't like to be quoted. And their superiors like it even less. Michael Hardner Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Civil servants have told me about it... Your reasons for it not being published make sense. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Shwa Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 They shouldn't release these discussions because they're not 'records' ? Huh ? You do know what a 'record' is don't you? Let me guess, you think that a record is every single scrap of information or data that the government has ever touched. They're also not "private" so... Yes they are. Who said they aren't? Doubtful. If so, then they wouldn't be discussed in a forum that's open. Anyone can repeat what they've seen on there. These are clearly not secrets. Trade secrets of private companies? Evaluations of computing hardware and infrastructure? A discussion of the evaluation of product testing? Management strategies? I am sensing you do not appreciate the scope of the sort of information that public servants might discuss on internal forums and message boards. Might... might... we're talking about an open forum where people are talking about improving government here, not private emails... Governance is an especially sensitive issue that could cause quite a bit of misinformation and political embarassment if some of the discussion is misconstrued by people who don't know any better. Public access to internal government governance forums would dry the conversations right up. you really are interested in keeping the status quo intact as long as possible. If you mean I prefer to remain in a coherent reality, you are perfectly correct. Unless you have some sort of viable solution, other than cherry picking because of some esoteric usufruct based on one's mere membership in 'the public,' the status quo is all there can ever be.
