BubberMiley Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 That's the second time you have said I need to borrow money. I have no idea what you're talking about, which makes at least two of us in that boat. I got a 'loan' from my uncle last week, , I think I'll call it revenue too. Jack Weber Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Yep. You officially became a "leech" in 2009. http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/article/611924 You also have no plan to get out of that hole again, now that your major industry, manufacturing, is in the toilet indefinitely (what's the dollar at today?). Hydroelectric power, however, is sustainable and lucrative and in abundance here. Once Wuskwatim and Conawapa and Gull and Gillam Island dams and Bipole III are finished, there will be an additional 5000 MW of power being generated. We're right behind Saskatchewan and Newfoundland in exiting have-not land for good. But you can't have a light without a dark to stick it in, and you can't have a nation of "haves." The model doesn't work that way. Therefore Ontario Is unlikely to be a have province again in our lifetime. And meanwhile, Ontario is desperate for Manitoba to sell some of that good sustainable power to them, but they don't pay as much as the Americans. They think that because we're provincial neighbours, they should get a better deal. Sadly, the PC/"Wine Tasting" Tim Hudak plan will be to sell off all things public because the private sector can do a better job... Like gouging Ontarians who use the 407 toll highway... Heckuva job,Mike Harris-y... Edited July 21, 2011 by Jack Weber Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
fellowtraveller Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 but they don't pay as much as the Americans. But the US economy remains in the toilet, and those manufacturing jobs that Ontario lost have also been lost in spades by the US. They don't need power because their factories have closed. So tell us who is going to buy your electricity and why? China? Oh wait, we'll need extension cords, lots of them. Never lend money to people with selective amnesia.Ah I see, a literalist. Do you also believe that evolution is a myth because it isn't mentioned in the Bible, that the Earth was created in 7 days and 7 nights, and that the Leafs will win another Stanley Cup? BubberMiley Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 They don't need power because their factories have closed. Good lord. This is just like the Jets debate. I won't bother to direct your attention to the contracts that have already been signed. I enjoy you blathering on about something you know nothing about too much. punked Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) Let's put in words he can understand. Cheap power is good for manufacturing in Canada. There end of story. Edited July 22, 2011 by punked Quote
BubberMiley Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Let's put in words he can understand. Cheap power is good for manufacturing in Canada. There end of story. That's if we decide to sell some of it to Ontario for less than we're selling it to Wisconsin and Minnesota. For now, it's really only cheap within Manitoba. BubberMiley Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 The PCs announced their platform and promised four more years of NDP government. Their platform includes extending the deficit from the current four year plan to eight years, increasing spending on health care, taking responsibility (inexplicably) for Winnipeg's back lanes, and giving cottage owners a tax break. At this rate, Selinger just has to keep repeating how the recession barely touched Manitoba and he should coast to an easy victory. Smallc Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 So apparently, Greg Selinger has a 52% approval rating. If that holds, they should do fine. Quote
lukin Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 So it unfortunately looks like the NDP will win another majority in MB. From the sounds of it,it won't even be a contest. Manitoba is in trouble. Greg Selinger is not Gary Doer. Quote

Manitoba is in trouble. Greg Selinger is not Gary Doer. It will be a contest. The key swing ridings are still in play. McFadyen could be premier next week, but it won't make much difference since they ran to the left of the NDP. But the "Manitoba is in trouble" comment makes little sense when 12 years of NDP rule has only resulted in improvements pretty much straight across the board. Wild Bill Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 That's if we decide to sell some of it to Ontario for less than we're selling it to Wisconsin and Minnesota. For now, it's really only cheap within Manitoba. Before Manitoba can sell power to Ontario we're gonna need some transmission lines! And Ontario's manufacturing base needs to recover a lot as well. I've seen articles suggesting that the recession has helped McGuinty as he keeps closing coal-fired plants, since if we were running at typical levels we would have a 20% SHORTFALL in electricity! Getting power from Manitoba should have happened 40 years ago but hey, who expects politicians to have any vision? Wild Bill Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 You're saying Filmon was short-sighted when he cancelled Conawapa? I can't say. Conawapa appears to just have been a generation project, not a delivery one. I'm an Ontarioan and I have no idea what potential there was to export that power to the States or to western provinces. All I know is that there isn't the distribution network necessary to get Manitoba power to Ontario manufacturing. You could have a great Manitoba generator and a hungry Ontario motor but with no extension cord between them you won't get very far! The question of course is, who would pay for those lines? If Ontario was hungry enough to buy and Manitoba anxious enough to sell something could have been worked out long ago. However, it wasn't then so it isn't there now! The first phase of the deal was signed back in 2005. Ontario would like to buy more, but Manitoba has preferred selling to Minnesota and Wisconsin because they're willing to pay more. http://energymanitoba.org/exp-imp_can_ont.htm Ah, the end of the article tells the tale! "As of July 2009, the federal government has not committed any financial support for the CETI and the agreement between Ontario and Manitoba for the first phase of the CETI is not publicly available. No public steps have been taken concerning a Manitoba-Ontario power grid since June 2005." So ntohing'd been happening! Still, I see your point that at least some Manitoba politicians did indeed have some vision. Meanwhile, we've been suffering under Dalton McGuinty, who prefers to buy power from solar panels on rooftops at 80 cents per Hwh instead of completing the deal with Manitoba' Have some pity for us! Smallc Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 Very strange thing happening. It appears that the NDP will win a large majority....but with a smaller percentage of the vote than the PCs. Quote
BubberMiley Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 The PCs have traditionally over-won their ridings in the south. Kind of a waste of support when you win a riding by over 80%. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
Smallc Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 Just to update, the NDP has now pulled ahead in popular vote....I'm biting my nails to see if they'll win my riding. It's still in play. Quote
capricorn Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 Smallc, what did the polls show going into the election? Were the polls close between the NDP and the Conservatives, or did the polls show the NDP leading in the polls? Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs."
