How the NDP frustrates me

I understand, but apparently not all ridings had candidates lined up less than a week after the call of the election. That was when I was prepared. I had people in the riding I wanted to run in who were prepared to help me out. I didn't do this all willy nilly. I went to Montreal and collected a few signatures from friends and family, then returned home to Quebec City and stood in front of a Maxi store and asked people to sign, because I planned to run as an NDP member in a riding in Montreal. I had no problems getting signatures.

I then figured I'd return to the NDP office here in Quebec, inform them I've been a long time member, find out which ridings are available, (preferably the one in Montreal where I grew up, but any would have been OK with me). I would have then traveled to wherever that would be (I had a few hundred dollars saved up), meet the people of that riding by going door to door and basically just enjoy the experience, with no expectations of winning. Just for the awesome experience so that one day I could say that I participated in this.

But I was rejected in 20 minutes, because I was considered unqualified. I'm sure other candidates the NDP ran were nowhere near as prepared as I was when they joined the fray.

Hey, Pegasus

Why don't you try posting on rabble (www.rabble.ca) and asking the same question? That site is chock full of NDPers and I'm sure someone could address your concern or at least tell you where to take it. Be warned, though. There are some true believers who won't countenance anything that sounds like criticism of the NDP.

Good luck!

rabble.ca...Thank you. I was looking for a place where maybe I could find some answers. Writing the NDP party and my new NDP MP is getting me nowhere fast.

It sounds as though she is conducting herself with remarkable poise.. which further suggests that she is not such an outlandish choice after all.

Good for her.

I think it's too early to say how she'll do.

But whether she does well or not, I find it embarrassing that national political parties would choose candidates that seem to have no inclination to even try to mount a serious campaign. It doesn't speak well for our political system.

On rabble you'll be banned if you are anything but the most rabid of the socialist breed. I go here often to read up on their pov though I don't post there. I find it necessary to know thine enemy.

I am a socialist, but not a rabid socialist. How about...like...hmmm...lemmee think...oh yeah...a "Realistic Socialist". Which to me includes creating social programs for the needs of today and potential needs of the future. All being "temporary" with the ability to be canceled once they have accomplished their goals.

You should be fine on Rabble then. I think that our social programs only allows f or freeloaders to work 45 day work years or collect welfare as a way of life. Then they want to retire in style with a revamped CPP and OAS. All without working a day in their lives. Sorry I think people should work for what they want in life and shouldn't expect the government to fund everything and solve all their problems.

I have never been on welfare, (came close to needing it often though) and only once on UIC. The restaurant I was working at as a dishwasher at the time went bye bye. I personally believe that those who are on welfare or UIC should have to contribute to society while on it, such as through volunteering, if physically capable. While I was on UIC, I volunteered for a non-profit organization. I ended up volunteering for them for the next 10 years. I met alot of good people and I learned new skills. I also enjoyed it immensely :)

Do you pay car insurance? If so, why?

Why is it the law? Do all that pay car insurance, use it?

Juts spit out what you're trying to say please. I don't have time for this. Never mind trying to be cleaver. I'm sure this is some ploy to show me that I'm really a socialist and would love nothing other then to drink vodka and say comrade a lot.

I'll type really slow for you then:

Pegasus if you're a white guy you need not apply. Haven't you learned anything from Bob Rae Ontario? The NDP only wants women and minorities for their caucus now. They have enough white men.

Again [typing very slow]

I'm sure we dont need two threads with the exact same questions in them.

Sorry if I caused you any confusion..... How about getting back to my question?

I could understand. But I could have found better qualified woman who actually lives in Berthier-Maskinonge to run as a candidate, than the one the NDP asked to run.

It appears to me that you are avoiding a fairly obvious conclusion here. The NDP are an accumulation of incompetents.

Stop giving me coulda's shoulda's and woulda's and just do it then. The party is VERY grassroots if you want to do it then do it.

It used to be that the guy working in a factory could put on his blue shirt and green work pants and run for office through the NDP - times have changed - There is no working class in Canada - Layton still lives in a dream and does not realize that all the jobs that were the NDP are now in China and other slave labour nations.

The NDP are now like the liberals, an elite bunch. Much like feminist lawyers in the family law system - who aged and became established and abandoned their sisters...or simply USED them to generate personal wealth and status.

West end Montreal, NDG/Cote-St.Luc/Montreal West riding, that is and yes, the signatures came from those who live mostly here in Quebec City, save for about 20 friends and family from the riding I wanted to run in. I was informed that the signaatures don't have to be from people in the riding you have to run in.

You ask me 'why', so start here:

http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=pol&dir=can/bck&document=index〈=e

You will note for a start that yes, your nominators must be eligible to vote in the riding for which you are being nominated.

Next, West end Montreal, NDG/Cote-St.Luc/Montreal West is not a federal riding. Cote-St. Luc is mostly in Mount Royal; Montreal West is in Lachine; could be Westmount; could be Lasalle; could be....(None of them, by the way, were won by a 19-year-old, male NDP candidate, so that bit is either a mistake, or a lie. )

Soooo... we've established that you know sweet nothing about the organizational structure, processes or personel of the NDP party, and shockingly little about the federal structure of Canada.. certainly nothing at all about basic party function.... Soooo what were your superlative qualifications again? You are a volunteer for an unnamed charity and you have passed through that riding recently? Me, too. I have the additional qualification of being able to find the Elections Canada site on my computer, and reading it.

Now, I know I'm being more than a little rude here, but let that be some hint about how offensive I find your sense of entitlement. Who do you think you are, marching in with no facts and no grasp, no perspective and no background, magnanimously offering yourself for the endorsement of starngers?

Trust and respect must be earned, and you've done so little of it that you don't even know that it must be done at all.

AND... then we get to the qualifications of the folks who were given those endorsements.

This young woman is not a teen-ager, and she's not 'a barmaid'. She is three years older than Ralph Goodale was when he was elected for the first time. She has been self-supporting outside of partisan circles (ie has held down a real job) for, I believe, more years than Stephen Harper has done.

She manages- not slings beer for, but manages- a successful pub. She is a parent. And she has been involved with (not just 'votes for' or even 'held a membership in' the NDP party for 'years'. (That's that 'earned trust' thing.)

So perhaps you should tell me again how you are more qualified than she is... or for that matter, more qualified than any of the new NDP MPs?
