betsy Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 There's nothing to compare the feeling of seeing the red turned blue! Jason Kenney did an amazing job connecting with the new Canadians and mionorities in Ontario, especially in the GTA. Being a minority myself, I remember when I first came to Canada. Well-meaning "veterans" of the same race tried to help me understand a a little of politics by explaining to me: Conservatives and Reform are racists. You vote Liberal. A good thing I got curious to know for myself. When I listened to Manning, I thought: gee, I don't hear anything that's racist to me. Actually it all sound common sense and practical what he says. Kenney is right. Values of the Conservatives reflect the same values of a lot of minorities. As long as Harper/Kenney continue their fair and practical policies regarding immigration, they will become the darling of the new Canadians. Quebec is too unpredictable. Layton will have that headache. Harper was right in concentrating in Ontario. No more special privileges for Quebec. Just be fair to all provinces.....Harper will be in for a long time. And he's only 52. Congratulations to the Conservatives. May you be inspired and blessed by God in your decisions. Quote
Topaz Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I think you may have it wrong. IF Harepr doesn't want the Bloc to rise again, he will have to work with Jack on Quebec, to keep Quebec happy. Two things can and will happen if Harper doesn't, the first is, the rise of the Bloc party even stronger and the reborn Liberal party, with a strong connection to Quebec could upset him in the future elections. So Quebec will always be a "monkey" on the federal govta nd that is probably the only power Jack has over the Tories. Quote

I think Harper working with Quebecers will factor in. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
ToadBrother Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I think Harper working with Quebecers will factor in. It will be a huge factor, and in some ways I think will serve to moderate the Tory government. Everyone in the rest of Canada has a vested interest, apart from any ideological leanings, to help Layton make his caucus work, and I think Harper, if he truly wants to go down in history as a great Prime Minister, will keep Layton in the loop. If Federalists, regardless of political stripe, can help Jack solidify support in Quebec, then it could be that this may be one of the most important elections in our history. Quote
Triple M Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 As a Toronto Tory I was surprised to see ridings that haven't been blue since the Mulroney years flip blue. I mean did anyone see Liberal Mississauga, Brampton, Etobicoke, North York to go entirely blue. Quote
