Guest American Woman Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I've got a link right now that works, but I just shut it down. Weird, but it feels like opening your gifts on Dec 23. Huh. But ... but ... I love opening my gifts on Dec 23! Then I re-wrap them so no one knows. Quote
ninjandrew Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 the site I was using took a crap. BAH HA haha haaa! Quote "Everything in moderation, including moderation." -- Socrates
nittanylionstorm07 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 BAH HA haha haaa! It's like when you are holding something cute... such as a baby chick, a baby duck, or even a small kitten or puppy in your hands... then it just pees or craps in it. Not nice. Quote
Bonam Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Early results are definitely out there and not that hard to find. I guess most people won't bother spending 1-5 minutes googling around though, so the media blackout has the desired effect of reducing the impact of eastern results on western votes. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Twitter is trying to block the results, but it just invites more to post them. Fascinating fun! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

bush_cheney2004 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Is it OK to pass on fake election results? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Bonam Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) Is it OK to pass on fake election results? Probably not, since by passing on enough fake results you could, by process of elimination, imply the real results. That being said, as an American, you can pass on whatever results you want, though probably not on this site where I'm sure that's being watched. Edited May 3, 2011 by Bonam Quote

Guest American Woman Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Do most people on the east coast stay up really late to hear the results or do most go to bed and just wait until morning? Quote
Smallc Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 My times may be wrong... half hour until the last poll close. No, it's still an hour for the BC polls. Quote

Let's say an American does post results here. Is MLW liable to charge? Quote The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

Bonam Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I don't think that's correct. I'm not sure either. Although, the CBC live online coverage does start at that time. But maybe it has half an hour of BS/commentary first before they will start reporting results. Quote

nittanylionstorm07 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 An interesting point in law. Let's say an American does post results here. Is MLW liable to charge? Yup as they provided a means for those results to be posted. If twitter has Canadian offices, they could be charged. I think the only thing that is okay to do is announce that a party has lost a riding they weren't running in the first place (Bloc in NL, for example or the Barbara Streisand party in Nunavut) as a humour piece. The other thing that is okay to do that we saw last election is where a speaker is running unopposed. CBC announced the winner of his seat quite early Quote

But maybe it has half an hour of BS/commentary first before they will start reporting results. So they start reporting results before the final count is in, is that it? What time do you generally hear who won, and can you get a pretty good idea of that before the final count is reported? Quote
Bonam Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 This is when the discussion can start: 10 Eastern http://www.ctv.ca/mini/election2011/results/index.html You are probably right. I was just looking at this which says live video starts at 9:30 http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/ Which channel do you think will have the better coverage? Quote
Smallc Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I'm not sure who will be better. I'll be watching CTV, but CBC will probably be as good. Not Sun News...and probably not Global (although last time, they had a massive exit poll that accurately predicted the election outcome). Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Yup as they provided a means for those results to be posted. If twitter has Canadian offices, they could be charged. MLW is hosted in the United States...any good lawyer could beat that rap. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
