Argus Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 Socialism is a nice, but unworkable, dream. And yet, many countries in Europe find that dream has come true, and live better lives, much better lives, than Americans. Quote "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley
Argus Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 To add: with this giant dose of hyperbole, jbg, you effectively give up the right to criticize others of engaging in hyperbole. Did you realize that ? Absolutely agreed. It was a ridiculous post that sounded like one of those Tea Party loonies getting red-faced about HIS taxes going to 'welfare bums and losers'. bush_cheney2004 Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 And yet, many countries in Europe find that dream has come true, and live better lives, much better lives, than Americans. That's OK...it was the Americans who helped to wake Europe from its dream nightmare, and finance their recovery (Marshall Plan). Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Argus Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) Now the President has compounded his overall lack of respect for what makes America great by drowning us in Obamacare. And worse, the POTUS did not care that he did nothing about a slaughter of our diplomats in Benghazi, as long as it didn't hurt his election efforts. About as good as Nixon's morality in having the CIA kill the FBI so he could get re-elected in 1972 without a sweat. Right, Mr. President? And I am no reactionary Republican. I am a liberal, Jewish Democrat. And Obama is a disgrace. You do not seem to me to be a liberal in any way, shape or form. Your posts seem like those of an American hard right wing 'conservative' tea party type-- as distinct from conservatives in places like Canada and the UK in that your conservatism is almost entirely focused on resentment at being taxed or regulated. In that way, you seem to be something between a libertarian and an anarchist. Although, to be honest, you probably appreciate having a well-ordered society, you are just enraged beyond meaning by having to pay for any of it or having any rules you don't like. And, of course, you want a strong army so it can kill any foreigners who get uppity. jbg Posted May 13, 2013 Author Report Posted May 13, 2013 And yet, many countries in Europe find that dream has come true, and live better lives, much better lives, than Americans. With Americans supplying their defense and spending a pretty penny in the process, are you surprised? We're subsidizing their leisure. And so, to a lesser extent is Canada. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

For 24 years the firm I am with has had a minority, much of that time as a partner. Most liberals have never worked with or even had lunch with a member of a minority group. I practice liberalism, not just speak it. In that way, you seem to be something between a libertarian and an anarchist. And, of course, you want a strong army so it can kill any foreigners who get uppity. Hardly an anarchist or a libertarian. More like a pragmatist. If the regulation or program works efficiently I'm fine with it. I just want some thought put into promulgating or administering a program. jbg Posted May 14, 2013 Author Report Posted May 14, 2013 Uh huh. And Hugo Chavez and Theresa Spence are your heroes. I have a hard time understanding far-right sarcasm, but I'm getting it. This time around, BM, I'm dead serious. I really think most liberals talk a good game. I am not serious, OTOH about Chavez and Spence. I just want some thought put into promulgating or administering a program. Probably a classical liberal not knowing how to reconcile that with practicing law. Thought is put into law but once it is law it is easily used to refuse any yielding to reason. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
Argus Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 While the next generation gets stuck with the bill, suffers civil unrest and an increasing police state. In Sweden? I'd say a police state in the next generation is far more likely in the US, to be blunt. That makes it even funnier. Edited May 16, 2013 by BubberMiley Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

Yeah, the Swedish in general are probably too apathetic to engineer the endeavor. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
