We had another thread that seemed to conclude that Prince Charles will be King because getting the political agreement to change the succession would be next to impossible.

But it appears that Price Charles is actively interfering in political affairs in the UK:

And by the end of 2009, Charles was becoming a serious threat to that future: Even as he was touring Canada, the London media were revealing that in the previous decade he had become a compulsively outspoken political actor, lobbying more than a dozen British cabinet ministers, including the Prime Minister, with his infamous “black-spider letters” – so-called because of his distinctive penmanship and his persistence – at least fortnightly, demanding meetings and seeking changes to legislation.

Is this the kind of person we want for King? Would universal disgust be enough to get a quick amendment through parliment?

King? We don't need no stinking king...

Abolish that rediculous pomp and tax dollar waste.

And while we're at it, the bloated conservative pork barrel'd senate too.

“This is all about who you represent,” Mr. Dewar (NDP) said. “We’re (NDP) talking about representing the interests of working people and everyday Canadians and they [the Conservatives] are about representing the fund managers who come in and fleece our companies and our country.

Technically speaking, Charles' only constitutional position is as Heir to the Throne. He has constitutional powers of his own, cannot exercise any of the reserve powers or prerogatives, so what he says holds no particular weight. While convention says it is inappropriate for him to be politically active, there is no outright ban, and he's hardly the first Prince of Wales to make his views known.

I knew he was making speeches but there is a huge difference between trying to sway the public and getting actively involved in the political process. Whether it is allowed or not is not the question. I do not think it is reasonable to assume he would suddenly become like Elizabeth when the crown is put on his head and I don't want a King who thinks he is entitled to interfer. Edited by TimG

When he becomes King, he will no longer be permitted to. I'm not sure what you're worried about.

Who can stop him?

The Government, in no small part, and if need be Parliament. All the Sovereign's powers in the UK are at the pleasure of Parliament.

Like I said, Charles is hardly the first big-mouthed royal, but the conventions on the Sovereign remaining above the fray are very long standing.

This has been an issue for some time, and the general consensus seems to be that Charles is using his time as Prince of Wales to do his thing, because he'll have to keep his mouth shut save during his meetings with his Prime Ministers.

Conservative pork barrel'd senate? Harper tried like hell to reform the senate, unlike the natural party that just packed it with their flunkies for years. But you beat your head against a brick wall (the natural party) enough and you finally learn. If that's the way the rules are, lets use them to our advantage for a change. Reap what you sowed.

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

No kidding. His idea of Senate reform was to try to pass a Senator term limit bill that was blatantly unconstitutional and unenforceable.

Not to mention a terrible idea. 7 - 8 years terms with continued appointment by GG on advice of PM? Great idea....

Dodge noted.

In other words, you have no counter to reality.

My point was that you calling it "conservative pork barreling" ignores the fact that he was taught by the experts, the natural ruling party that made a science out of payola via senate seats. Nice missing the major point since you have no defense.

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

I didn't call it that, and I don't agree with the statement. I agree even less with your claim.

In my sentence, "you" was plural.

Quite so, this has been borne out by many a Prince of Wales.
