William Ashley Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 (edited) http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/18/icann-has-xxx-domain-names-yes/ ? So is this strickly for porn, or does it also work for California sentencing information? You know three strikes? Or baseball? Or bowling? Is .xxx a standard around the world? Now the political aspect Will it be banned in half the world, due to obscenety laws? What countries will ban it? Will countries that don't track people who use .xxx? GostHacked Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 It's been in the works for some time, and well. I am glad to see it go through. Although it may end up shutting down free sites and the like. But making it mandetory for companies to switch and have to pay for the .xxx domain, seems like nothing but a money grab. If they want to force these kinds of changes (world side impact) on companies, they should suck up the cost themsevles of whatever. Quote

The suggestion that an adult website "will pretty much be forced to buy its .xxx version" is probably a matter of practicality, not a legal requirement. The owner of some wildly popular website, say hotkimmy.com, might need to buy the new hotkimmy.xxx domain name as well, to avoid having somebody else buy the name to leech unsuspecting customers away. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Do you know if the owner of "hotkimmy.com" gets first crack at "hotkimmy.xxx". Otherwise there will be a lot of money to be made from quickly snapping up the xxx domains for big .com porn sites and holding them for ransom. BTW... I dont get a site for that domain, so ya might wanna snap it up set up shop Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

Hmmm, given the plethora of 'erotica' on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and other mainstream ebook sites, do you suppose they'll have to switch to an xxx domain? Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

The thing is, no one has to switch to an xxx domain, even the actual xxx sites. It's a matter of choice. Quote

I sure didn't want to link to something like that on this family-friendly forum! Maybe hotkimmy.com could sell homemade toques and mitts and leg warmers or something. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Meaning it will be mandatory. ....critics say established porn sites are unlikely to give up their .com domains just because there's a .xxx option. That means anyone who thinks he's filtered porn by filtering out all .xxx domains from his network is due for a nasty surprise. In addition, porn site operators won't be forced to get .xxx domain names and go through the vetting process. link Quote

Read my earlier comment on why big porn sites might be "pretty much forced to" buy the new domain names. Hint: it's the same reason why major Canadian businesses buy both the ".com" and ".ca" versions of their domain names. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
guyser Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 .... mitts and leg warmers or something. -k ...better buy hotkimmy.xxx for those too. Quote
