Mr.Canada Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 People on the news last night are saying that if Toronto privatizes social housing that thousands of people will be thrown into the streets which is fear mongering and blatantly not true at all. How would a private company make money if they had no tenants? It's obvious that the current situation just isn't working. Mayor Ford didn't say that he was going to privatize the TCHC, he only said he would look at it. I think looking at all the options is the prudent thing to do, including privatization or having the TCHC semi private is also an option. TCHC needs to be fixed, it's broken, it isn't working. "It's offensive to undermine the electoral process," she said. "It's quite unfair for Mayor Ford to say he can get rid of the people we elected." There will be new tenant elections held and if the tenants want to reward these tenant board members they are free to do so. I don't think that it would be wise to put them right back into the position that led them to this in the first place. That will up to them to decide. She added privatization would lead to a widening gap between low-income residents and housing as private companies could increase rent beyond what those currently living in TCHC could pay. This is also more hype that isn't substantiated...just more fear mongering from the left wing carry overs from the last regime. It all depends on how privatization is done, it's all in the details. They have to have it in the contract and rent increase problem solved. As long as they put in some regulations privatization will be very good. "Privatization can literally mean (social housing tenants) can't live somewhere because companies might tear it down and replace it with condos," she said. Again it's all in the details of how it's done. If it isn't done properly and carefully then privatization will be bad but it doesn't need to be bad. It can be very good. Toronto needs some choices in public housing. Right now the people have no choice they must deal with the biggest slumlord in Canada, the TCHC. "We have 300 tenants, all seniors, in different states of health," she said. "We wouldn't know where to live or where to go." Source This is more absurdity. TCHC is the biggest slum lord in Canada and something needs to be done about it. It's obvious that the former mayor and their left wing council did almost nothing about it. Michael Hardner Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Why a third thread, though ? Can't the others support this, since it's an ongoing discussion about the same thing ? Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Mr.Canada Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Why a third thread, though ? Can't the others support this, since it's an ongoing discussion about the same thing ? I think it's relevant to discuss separate issues in separate threads so things don't get muddled. Feel free to combine them if you wish, it's all good Michael. Michael Hardner Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Hehe, ah ok. Now I wonder what such powers you do have... The answer is: none. I can only ask, beg, and plead for you and others to improve your level of discussion as I try to do myself. Why ? Because it's a good forum, a neighbourhood of healthy discussion - and like any attractive neighbourhood it works only when individuals who live there refrain from littering. I think I'm doing pretty well lately honestly. I haven't called any names in a while and I am making strong points about strong people. Canada deserves strong leaders like myself. Mr.Canada coming soon to a ballot box near you. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
