Argus Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Re: the Supreme Court's decision to ban all third party advertising because it might "overwhelm" voters, and "oppress them", their fear that rich people would have a disproportionate effect on the election. It certainly seems to be happening. I've probably seen fifty Liberal TV commercials for 1 Tory commercial. I've had the radio on all afternoon, and I swear there has been at least 1 Liberal campaign commercial every 10 minutes. I can almost repeat it by heart now - except that I change the channel every time it comes on. (thank God for remotes). I remember that the amount that was allowed for third party advertising was so low you couldn't even have one national TV commercial for it. The massive wave of Liberal advertising - paid for in part by donations from Quebec advertising agencies - would sweep away anyone with even a hundred times that limit. I thought there were supposed to be new limits that put the parties on roughly equal footing? If so it's not showing up here. Maybe the Liberals are getting their advertising for free? Is it different in other parts of the country? Are people seeing more Tory advertising in Toronto or BC? Sully Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Definitely more Liberal ads out here in BC over the course of the election, then again not to surprising the amount of Liberal ads on CBC during the hockey playoffs. Yes those good old Liberals have definitely made political advertising quite Liberal friendly. I am thinking there is some sort of exchange going on for ads for the Liberals. It would go something like this "I leave this bag of cash on the ground and I am going to turn around and if it goes away while I am not looking then thats just plain crazy. Oh ya we want our ads broadcasted 5 times for every one time the other parties have theirs played, have a good day Liberal friendly ad agency." Quote
Bro Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Irresponsible use of taxpayers money, once again. I am quite certain the funds for these commercials are not from donations to the liberal party,or even freebies from ad agencies. They are using all taxpayers money directly to pay for their ads.The CBC might be the only one with a policy to promote the liberals for future grants and favours. playfullfellow Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Oh get a grip. Don't talk nonsense. Geeesh!!!! Lets just look at this for a bit, we do see a heck of a lot more ads coming from the Liberals, it doesn't matter where you look or listen, there are Liberal ads. Now, if all parties are supposed to be on a level playing field, then how come we dont see as many ads coming from the Conservatives and NDP (thank god for that too). How come the Liberals can afford to pay for so many ads? It dont come cheap to pay for national ads, even if the CBC did give them a quantity discount. I guess we wont find out till after the election though, pity. Quote
Stoker Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I'd also wonder if perhaps the RCMP should keep an eye and ear out to see if any current files/docs/records are being destroyed by the current government before transition takes place......thats something I'm sure that most Canadians would be intrested in Quote The beaver, which has come to represent Canada as the eagle does the United States and the lion Britain, is a flat-tailed, slow-witted, toothy rodent known to bite off it's own testicles or to stand under its own falling trees. -June Callwood-

caesar Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 It is a party's right to run ads that they must pay for; within the guidelines. Harper likes to take CHEAP shots at the Liberals and NDP in unpaid interviews The original Conservatives under a moderate leader such as Joe Clark may have got my vote but not this extreme right wing mouthy character. He will be an embarrassment to Canadians. He makes wild statements and then denies he even made them. The most ridiculous one being that he supported Chretien's decision not to send Canadian troops into Iraq. Does he think most Canadians are deaf., dumb, and blind. I do know that there are many that are. I read them on this site. Quote

I read them on this site. caesar, the same can be said for just about any person who strongly supports a certain party. You know as well as anyone that the Liberals and NDP have twisted a lot of the words of the Conservatives into a bunch of clap trap. MS shows a lot of this in his anti-consevative posts. I still seem to remember that Harper said that we should "support" the US in it's fight against tyranny but that was a long time ago. I could be wrong and am not afraid to admit it. Show me the evidence and I will say hail caesar. Quote
