punked Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Sonny, don't go there, you've been warned... You're a selfish bastard aren't you? Throw older people under the bus so you can benefit, nice touch for an NDPer... You are the one who wants to limit CPP and its contributions so that every Canadian gets enough CPP to stay under the poverty line. My party seems to want to address this issue and has an idea of how to start to fix it. I know how you feel though. Quote
punked Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Ummm, fyi, that's called BLACKMAIL, which is illegal in Canada, I guess you're saying Jack Layton should be arrested... You are crazy if you think parties negotiating on a budget is blackmail I no longer wonder why the Liberals didn't ask for anything over the last two years and kept the Conservatives in power for over 100 votes with out winning anything. Now I know they are actually didn't know they could ask for stuff. Quote
Topaz Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 In question period today, the NDP said that Harper is in back room talks with the BLOC. Baird didn't deny it and said the Tories want the crime bill passed and will HAVE to rely on the BLOC, if that what it takes. Of Course, Jack on fun with this one, reminding the Commons how the Tories said they would never deal with a party that didn't support Canada. Tories are eating crow. Quote

Topaz Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 There is a problem with increasing payments to CPP and OAS for some workers. Some companies, have when workers go on company pension, any increase in CPP or OAS, that increase is deducted from the company pension and so, the pensioner would NEVER see the increase. I think this is a stupid deal and rules should be made that companies can't do this. One company in mind, said it would pay ALL monies to the company pension but no one was smart enough to realize what the out come would be when the worker retired. I would think 50/50 deal on paying for pensions would be a better way to go. Quote
madmax Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Wrong, chretien called the most unnecessary election in canada, man you libs have short memories. .. don't call me a Lib. Dems fighting werds! .... I have no short memory but you are a hypocrit Conservative. It was because of Chretiens unnecessary election that the Conservative party drafted up an fixed election date. However, the Conservatives just couldn't help themselves from their opportunistic intentions and undermined their own bill. No one was calling for an election other then Conservative Party using $300million dollars of taxpayers monies on nothing more then a Political Parties Gambit. 2008 was the most Unnecessary Election In Canadian History. Esq Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Flaherety seems to have stated this for the budget: -No new spending -Tax cuts for corporations -female retiries who didn't work would be eligible for CPP. (more than just the current adjustments for stay at home moms if this is anything but giving what people already have). - the government is willing to build Quebec an arena (but this is illegal to do so with funds that are available - so new funds need to be created - but no new spending... mmh?) That is the budget as far as I can tell. This equals: 1. Liberals not gonna take it. 2. NDP may be offended at this "promise of nothing new" 3. Well its not the 5 billion the Bloc wants unless it is a really really nice arena. (from this government though anything is possible in terms of spending on an arena - g20, olympics, a quarter of the senators, afghanistan - real sports - those combined might even add up to the 5 billion quebec is asking for. Call it Arena Canada. Anything can happen at this point based on past actions by the various parties... but the election is still a long way off because of the recess until mid March (not a prorouge --- "a recess") 3 month "recesses" are normal for parliament for whatever unknown reason - you know 3 months off every half year plus stat holidays. Even though it appears even the local MP here is in Ottawa when you try to get ahold of them at the consituentcy office. That would put the election somethime in late april or early May.... None the less ... 1 and a half months is a long long long time in bearing with the government - in terms of peoples short term memories. So much can change in that time, especially with the opposition silenced in parliament that whole time. Even with the "take note" for Egypt (I would rather have a take note for "PERIMITER SECURITY" since this is tomorrow Friday and is an initiative apparently to change immigration rules, allow the US military and federal police agencies to investigate Canadians and operate in Canada, and share even more information even on "suspected situations", things like police contacts and access to police files on this side of the border, example for police investigations, even if no charges result - as a means to "deter and prevent mobility of people in and out of Canada. This is a serious issue when it in anyway allows US officials to prevent Canadians from returning to Canada or likewise prevents Canadians from leaving Canada - even if they arn't entering the US. I'm still baffled by the notion of having a parliamentary session when parliament is in recess -- this constitutionality really baffles me. Makes those 20 days where games actually occur that much more entertaining. One thing gets me though - with no new spending I geuss the f35 deal is dead in the dirt. punked Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 OHHHHH NOES now it is the Liberals who are talking about pensions. I bet GWiz after all his big talk about how the NDP suck when they talk about pensions and the CPP will come to this thread talking about how it was the Liberals who raised this issue. Wont forget I think I predicted this would happen like 12 hours ago. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/which-came-first-the-liberal-or-ndp-line-on-pensions/article1893078/ Quote

I strongly second that conclussion... Seems to have worked for the Cons. though, now the $300 Mil election expense, and not wanting that again, is the Canadian public's focus rather than the Con's billions of dollars of wasteful spending...
