They may have failed to learn Canadian values but that doesn't mean they couldn't pass a test. Let's say I'm a conservative Muslim who's watched a few Hollywood movies or US network sitcoms and maybe had a talk with someone else who passed the test (which would probably not even be necessary). Maybe I haven't even done this. I'm just going by the things my local newspapers have told me about the West. Regardless of what I believe myself, it would be quite easy for me to tell you what you want to hear when you ask questions like

or what they'd do if their son wanted to marry someone from a different religion or race,

"I would support his freedom of choice and welcome the woman or man into my home, for that is the Canadian way."

or what they thought of women wearing short skirts or driving cars.

"How wonderful that women have these freedoms in Canada. I am so glad to come to such a tolerant society."

I'd rather weed out those who thought God's law, as they saw it, overruled everything else,

"While we all have the freedom to practise our beliefs in our homes, public life and laws are mainly secular in Canada. We tolerate all religions equally."

None of this would stop me from going on welfare, beating up women, or lobbying for Shari'a law once I became a citizen. (I am not saying that that is what Muslim immigrants do btw. I'm just pointing out that this kind of test won't even do what you hope it will.) It's just some bullshit that anyone could make up if they knew the bare minimum about Western culture. Do you think the Khadrs were unaware of what Canadian social norms were in these areas?

Cite please, thanks.

Khadrs fight against Canada, our NATO allies.

Including Khadrs women's statement on public television. Both mother and daughter.

cite please , not your opinion.

Thanks in advance.

You're welcome.

I see you didn't deny the CBC interview with Khadrs.

Well, exactly. Proponents of such a wasteful idea either think all these scary Muslims are either too stupid to fake something that would be easy as hell....or else they think the scary Muslims are so profoundly principled that they would never tell a lie.

Argus, you're actually advocating discriminating between immigrants on the basis of religious and cultural beliefs?

Is that a trick question?

Argus, Saipan, Battletoads: Do you guys even realize how easy it would be to just bullshit and pass a 'test of cultural attitudes'? At least the current test requires some actual factual knowledge about the country.

They're buying the answers to the test NOW. And it's not as easy as you might think. If a test is properly designed with enough subtlety in the questions and possible answers they can be quite revealing. You can know, sort of, what they're looking for, but your assessment of what constitutes the right answer could easily be quite mistaken when offered a similar seeming answer to choose.

and remember, even putting your mind to cheating it means you have to fully and completely acknowledge to yourself what type of attitudes are prevalent in the Canadian cultural milieu.

You are correct. It would be quite easy to learn how to pass it.Learning about Canada would be harder.

How hard do you think it is to study for a 30 minute test on what's in a short guide?

So cheaters will be better than honest people who express their true ideas, is that the meaning of your "Canadian cultural milieu"?

So most citizen should be cheaters? Is that the reason that politicians love to break their promises they give out during elections?

Im guessing easier to learn about facts than nuances.

Good. I want a high failure rate. Take the cream of the crop and lose the rest.

The same clown who came here from Czechoslovakia to escape from where his rights were being infringed upon...

I'm thinkin' he's simply an old crank who is just angry...At everything!

Calm down. Try meditation. I apologize for not joining any name calling matches.
