Topaz Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Apparently, the government has been leasing Russian choppers for Afghansitan and for secret missions. The cost for this is unknown as yet. As it is pointed out in the following article, it seems the Russian choopers are good enough for the war but not to buy. The Russians choopers are $17Mil compared to the US chinooks at $80 Mil. The Russian choppers are made with de-icers systems, were the US choopers is extra. One reason for buying the chinook, was we would have a easier time getting parts because we wouldn't be having problems with the US vs Russian. Which brings this question. If Russia is good enough to leasing from then why are the Tories wanting to pay 16+Bil for jets to protects us from the Russians. Since no one really knows the future of what leaders will do or say, we could also have the same problem with the US. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/11/24/helicopter-russian.html Quote
Army Guy Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Here is what the globe says, it even gives DND spokes persons name....Please note that does say the Chinooks and griffon helos are used for military type combat missions and it does say that the Hip 17 helo's are from Skylink a toronto based company and that they are used for resupply missions....Not secret JTF operations not combat operations , resupply ops... Canadian Forces spokeswoman navy Lt. Kelly Rozenberg-Payne said the cost of the lease might be made public later. She said commanders in Kandahar requested the additional helicopters. "The (operational) tempo within the air wing became very great and it was just assessed by commanders on the ground that they needed additional platforms to help move troops around," she said. Canada operates Chinook helicopters in Kandahar as well as leasing helicopters from Torontobased Skylink Aviation. The military also operates its Griffon helicopters. Information about those aircraft, such as costs and numbers, have been released. The Chinooks and Griffons are used in combat while the Skylink helicopters are used to supply Canadian bases. Rozenberg-Payne said "the correct Government of Canada policies and procedures for a project such as this were all followed" in the case of the new helicopters. Why not? Eccept for the fact that the Russians refuse to spill another drop of their own blood in that rock pile shit hole drug addicted place...BUT the Russians are smart..they WILL send material for a price..but NOT men...where as OUR people are not quite awake to the fact that the waste of human life has it's limits..we are not quite at that turning point yet....or maybe we are - now that we are going to be TRAINING them - and that will mean equipment - and more contracts..to bad we did not learn from the Russians that waging war for profit does not need to be domestically bloody?
