pfezziwig Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 We are about to connect NS to NL Churchhill power generating plants, why do I get the erie feeling my power rates are going to go up? Emera will milk this for years when thinking up new 'reasons' to justify power rates increases. Shareholders will benefit of course, but what about Nova Scotians, this is a private company afterall? Emera will milk this for years when thinking up new 'reasons' to justify power rates increases. Shareholders will benefit of course, but what about Nova Scotians, this is a private company afterall? Probably because a 6.2 billion dollar deal has been anounced. Anybody can be a shareholder, its a publically traded company listed on the TSX. If you think your power rates will rise, then hedge against that by owning a share in the company that you pay the bill too. Wouldn't be a bad buy now that the price will have come down due to helping finance this project. Oh look here, it pays a dividend for just owning the damn thing. http://www.snl.com/interactive/lookandfeel/4072693/EMA_Dividend0810.pdf Quote "Stop the Madness!!!" - Kevin O'Leary "Money is the ultimate scorecard of life!". - Kevin O'Leary Economic Left/Right: 4.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.77

It would be a good long term hold, considering the growth potential in electricity use, and once that new power plant gets up and running. What I would like to know is that with this undersea powerline coming, is NFLD going to be able to turn off the electricity spigot to Quebec, or is this just for the new plant and Quebec gets no money for the new electricity transfered by the new plant? pfezziwig Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) I believe it only affects the new power generating plants that will be built. If there is a way out of the current NL-Quebec contract I'm sure they will find a way to pipe it through NS if they can. And they have the nerve to threaten the Feds not to fund this project. This should help Quebec along in becoming the first province to achieve bankruptcy, Quebec deserves this don't you think? nana na na, hey hey, good bye nana na na, hey hey, good bye , ps. thanks for the advice on buying emera stock, that dividend does sound tasty and eases the pain of being a shafted nova scotian.
