William Ashley Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Yeah so apparently them safe airport scanners arn't really as safe as they say they are. Apparently statistically speaking someone is going to get cancer. Good things they arn't using these on international flights leaving Canada, only US bound flights (I can't fly to the US). Other countries in Europe do have these things - though. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/101112/health/us_airport_security_health DO you feel betrayed now you know that they LIED and anyone who got scanned may die from horrible cancer now? Quote I was here.
Bonam Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Statistically speaking many many more people will get cancer due to the radiation of sitting in the plane during the flight itself. The radiation dose due to the scanner is equivalent to the radiation dose of spending just a few minutes in the air. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Radiation exposure at 40 thousand feet is 60-70 times higher than sea-level. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
William Ashley Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) See if you read the article, this type of radiation stays in the dermal layer, and this is why it makes it dangerous. Areas with a lot of skin such as the scrotum may have even more exposure, adversely effecting male health. Edited November 16, 2010 by William Ashley Quote I was here.

William Ashley Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) There's always the train... There are underwater trains from Europe? Is Canada seeking exemption from being scanned on the other side? You know to protect Canadians returning to Canada from unauthorized scanning on their return flight? After all Canadians will be the ones stuck paying the 100's of millions of dollars in public health funds fighting those cancer victims battles. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/7352.php http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/archive/2009/09/14/cancer-care-in-canada-costs-dependent-on-postal-code.aspx http://www.canceradvocacy.ca/reportcard/2007/The%20Cost%20of%20Cancer%20Drugs%20in%20Canada.pdf http://www.womensresearch.ca/PDF/programs/Breast_Cancer_Costs.pdf Let us not also forget this may effect Canada's most affluent and worldly citizens the total cost of cancer in 1998 in Canada was $159 billion The value of the lives and torment suffered by its victims arn't included in this costing. DogOnPorch Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 There are underwater trains from Europe? I believe they are called ships. Is Canada seeking exemption from being scanned on the other side? I'm not sure. I think all this random scanning stuff is BS anyways. But if one is worried about long-term radiation...don't fly. I actually do like sailing but it takes so long compared to flying, and costs more. Edited November 16, 2010 by William Ashley Quote I was here.
