Topaz Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Col. Pat Storgan, is going to sue the Feds over decisions made by the Veterans Review and Appeal Board over lump sum payments for disabilities. Now, when you think about the cost for these Vets have to redo their homes and autos for them to live, anyone with common sense would know 250,000 lump sum is not enough or right. The PM, himself makes 260,000 a year and these Vets are only enetitle to 250,000 one time? If Canadians have to pay big bucks for military equipment, the government has to put as much into the care of these guys coming home, especially those who won't be able to work. The blame has to go to the Libs and the Tories and since the Tories are in the drivers seat they better do better than they have the last fours years and the last few weeks! If the government doesn't want to pay the money out then don't get the country into these stupid wars! http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/887299--outgoing-veterans-ombudsman-says-he-ll-sue-government?bn=1 Quote
William Ashley Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) The moral of the story... get it in writing or it doesn't exist. -------------------------------------------- This is starting to sound like it would be cheaper to keep employing them rather than let them retire. Maybe Stephen Harper has other motives to keeping non combat troops in a combat zone, hmmm. Look what just happened to pay bonuses--- canada could have saved a lot more by just keeping their whole mission non combat and get the same benefits. Meanwhile Canada is set to spend $300-million to close Camp Mirage (The free base - well I'd hate to see how much a base that cost something would cost... using Harper Economics - how much did the actions in Afghanistan cost in total again..).... AND they are setting up a base on Cyprus (I spoke too soon) ---- because.... because.... hold on why does Canada need a military base on Cyprus when their ally Turkey is much closer to Afghanistan... arn't there empty US bases just sitting there for this " NATO WAR" Or is NATO alliance membership not nearly as valued as price gouging your allies and draining their domestic resources for imperialistic pursuit and foreign overthrow. Is Bush Cheney Around to answer this one? BTW the PM SPENDS MILLIONS EACH YEAR... you might like to ask how much of that 260K he actually uses if everything he does is on the taxpayer in "perks" Perhaps the PM and MPs that said they wouldn't take their pensions should take a "lumpsum" on their pensions. Perhaps these frauds the same of altering the expected deal should be chargeable as FRAUD. The moral of the story... get it in writing or it doesn't exist. PIK Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 I agree the plan has to be changed and I think harper will respond. Strogan got the ball rolling , but now I think he is starting to go to far with his critizism. When you (what i hear)constantly scream and threaten to punch out the lights of the minister ,then he is going to far, when that happens things start to go backwards instead of front words. I hope the vets get everything they need, but also I know alot of vets that are very happy with the treatment they have received.I hope I have not affended any vet ,but this is just one opinion of one man.
