August1991 Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 The only possible francophones are Pettigrew and Dion. Anglos? Manley and Copps (?). Ken "I don't want to be a celebrity" Dryden? Can anyone suggest some names? This is happening very, very fast for Herle and Martin. Events to them are arriving at the speed of light. It's an awful feeling. And on the 29 June, it will come to a sudden, unbelievable halt. So, who's next? [bTW, I posted this query on my French forum to truly strange results... IMV, in Quebec, no one seems ever willing to face the obvious future.] Quote

IMV, in Quebec, no one seems ever willing to face the obvious future.] If they change leaders this soon it will be the second time they have had an anglo leader for a few months, just long enough for him to take the heat from the crap his predecessor stirred up, then gone back to a Franco (Quebec) leader for many years. Trudeau was leader for many, many years. Turner took all the heat and anger for what Trudeau had done, and lost the election, then was replaced by Chretien. Chretien was leader for over ten years, and if Martin loses it will be because of the anger built up towards Chretien over those years. Then they'll switch to someone else? Who? Laperiere? A "former" seperatist? Petigrew? Will Charest go back into federal politics? The Liberals are becoming known as the Quebec party. maplesyrup Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 The PM's Exit Strategy You may yet scare enough Canadians into re-electing you. But frankly, sir, that's not the way to bet it. So it's time to put your dreams of a decade in power on hold. You may enter the history books sooner, like in two weeks. Which raises a question: how do you want history to remember your last two weeks in public life? Excellent article by one of English Canada's best non-affiliated journalists. playfullfellow Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Thanks for the link MS, I liked that article, I just wish more would be written along those lines. Quote
maplesyrup Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 pff.....gad you liked it. I think a lot of the media do a huge dis-service to viewers but being spokespeople for their respective political parties or ideology. A good example is Jose Legault - she's not a journalist, she a BQ or PQ hack, fronting as an independent journalist. What I like about Wells is that he expresses his own point of view, he's not a broken record like Legault. Sometimes he will support one party, another time another party.
