Topaz Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 If you are one of the 1700 Canadians hiding your money offshore, your name may soon be revealed. This would not be good for any politician hiding money especially if you are the seating government. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/09/29/tax-account-hsbc.html Quote

capricorn Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 If you are one of the 1700 Canadians hiding your money offshore, your name may soon be revealed. CRA certainly already has obtained those names. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says anyone using a Swiss bank account to evade taxes will face the full force of the law.His comment during question period follows a Canada Revenue Agency pledge to audit more than 1,000 foreign bank accounts linked to Canadians in a crackdown on off-shore tax evasion. National Revenue Minister Keith Ashfield says France has provided information about Swiss accounts held by Canadians. He says the government is aiming to recover taxes owed by those who hide assets in foreign accounts. Most Canadians play by the rules and pay their taxes, he says. Those who don't will be tracked down. The revenue agency says in the last year it has found more $1 billion in federal taxes owed by Canadian taxpayers hiding assets abroad. It says another $138 million in unpaid taxes was found through a voluntary disclosure program. http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100930/Offshore-Accounts-100930/20100930/?hub=TorontoNewHome How many tax cheats are beating down CRA's door to take advantage of the voluntary disclosure process? I would guess more than a couple. This would not be good for any politician hiding money especially if you are the seating government. Why do you say that? You got a lead? capricorn Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 As I suspected, some Canadians have grown a conscience and are coming forward to report offshore funds. The taxman has located $1 million in unreported income sitting in Swiss accounts. Two weeks after the Canada Revenue Agency said it would probe 18-hundred accounts held at the HSBC bank, 19 people have come forward. In 2009, the Canada Revenue Agency recouped $138 million from three-thousand Canadians who came forward to disclose offshore funds. Revenue Minister Keith Ashfield says his department expects to double the number of voluntary disclosures on offshore funds this year. http://www.cfra.com/?cat=3&nid=76394 Goody. RNG Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 As I suspected, some Canadians have grown a conscience and are coming forward to report offshore funds. Is it a conscience or fear of detection? I know where my vote is. Quote The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
Zachary Young Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 You know, one of these days you looters will have chased off everyone who knows how to do anything and all you pathetic thieves will starve to death or freeze in the cold, unable to procure even a sandwich or heating oil. Quote
