Jack Weber Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Exactly! Mind you, there's always some liberal type who will get all defensive and say "Here's a guy driving a Vic and he's NOT a cop and he's NOT old!" Such people completely miss the point. Of course such generalizations are not 100%. They don't have to be! What's important is if they are true often enough to make them a statistical risk worth avoiding. The name of the game is to avoid being involved in an accident, not avoiding accusations of being politically incorrect. The blue hair set are as bad,if not worse, for traffic problems in Southern Ontario than any street racing fool.... And Bill...You're not actually correct when you said most immigrants show up jhere and b get a drivers license rubber stamped. My wife had to go back to driving school and go through the whole Ontario drivers license regime...And she's been driving for almost 20 years!!! It seems that unless you come from the U.S.,U.K.,Australia,most of Western Europe, and Japan you pretty much have to start at the beginning.... Black Dog Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 David, if you don't like it move. That's what I did. I was tired of feeling like a second class citizen in my own area so I left, moved away and have never been happier. I live in rural north Halton but even when I shop or drive through Georgetown it's very rare that I see any other race but white. Except on Saturday, that's when the minorities from Brampton drive out here to shop. That's when there are more but it's not over run with them. They don't take over the place or anything. If you're willing to commute I highly recommend you check out the outlying areas. Just be sure to steer clear of any town or city that is attached to a larger urban area or that has local public transit. Public transit is a magnet for the types of people we wish to avoid. There are a lot of town around the GTA that would be more to your liking. Go for a drive one weekend. So the only time you visit Toronto is when you go to videotape gay sex acts, is that right? Quote

guyser Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 One should understand that most immigrants are granted a Canadian provincial driving licence with the smack of a rubber stamp! There's no re-test! Not quite. In fact quite wrong. "Canadian provinces, Canadian Forces Europe, U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria, Belgium, Australia and Isle of Man. " These are the only places having a reciprocal deal. Any Asian, South East, Chinese national would not be 'rubber stamped" for a licence. So yes, if you get large numbers of people who learned to drive in a third world country being allowed to instantly hit the roads of Toronto, with virtually no patrolling to weed out bad mistakes, then the ridiculous situation we have today is only inevitable... Except for the fact that most did not drive in the third world country......nor did they "instantly" hit the road...... Most emigres from Hong Kong, which make up a large portion of Markham and surrounding area rarely had cars due to the outrageous expense of cars and parking in their homeland. Lets not stop there, they also rarely if ever drove in snow or ice. Quote

I don't mind being virtually the only one one this board who will admit to it! I notice however that no one has responded to my point about $300 to write a written driver's test for someone who can't read English. As I said, I was offered repeatedly. I have no reason to believe that its not still happening. I notice however that no one has responded to my point about $300 to write a written driver's test for someone who can't read English. As I said, I was offered repeatedly. I have no reason to believe that its not still happening. Because I suspect it doesnt happen much at all anymore. One must show picture ID to be able to write the test.....so unless you look chinese and female...... The fraud they see now is generally coming from the inside since they have privatized the licence system Quote

wyly Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Any Asian, South East, Chinese national would not be 'rubber stamped" for a licence. for the most part I'd agree but there people out there that leave me questioning how they got a license, it isn't possible to be that bad and have passed a test without bribing someone...of course there is the possibility they never took a test...Except for the fact that most did not drive in the third world country......nor did they "instantly" hit the road......Most emigres from Hong Kong, which make up a large portion of Markham and surrounding area rarely had cars due to the outrageous expense of cars and parking in their homeland. I agree with that. I have no idea how some people get licenced, at least legally. Bribes may be one answer, and if the only answer, someone in Driver Testing Centre is getting rich. Quote

dre Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Ok. I notice that a lot of people here do not live in the GTA so let me try to get you to understand how it's like. 1/4 of all of Canada's population is within a very short radius of the GTA so this place does matter. Living here feels a lot like the 3rd world. It's a sh*t hole. It's dirty, stinky, crowded, and filled with languages you cannot understand. Seeing people wearing pajamas's and ethnic rags is a DAILY occurrence. You will see this all day. It's not just a 1 day thing. I made it THAT far! Quote I question things because I am human. Molly Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 The blue hair set are as bad,if not worse, for traffic problems in Southern Ontario than any street racing fool.... Isn't that interesting! My experience is that when you run across a dangerously inconsiderate jackass on the road, 10:1 it's a 40-something year old white male. (The one left is likely to be a twenty-something white woman with a cell phone.) Southern Ontario does have deep trouble, though, with normal driving practices. Yes, even the native born struggle with the most basic of rules like what speed limit means, who has right of way, what turn signals are for, safe stopping distances... Arguably one must drive the 401 at rush hour as though it was a video game, but those bad and dangerous habits just don't belong on the 10th sideroad.
