From the article, it sounds like the only thing that could be done would be to literally place a military garrison at every single village, so as to rid the LRA of its easy prey. Of course, that is far beyond the capability of the nations in question, so I expect the status quo will continue.

I was thinking that one effective way to combat them would be to chip everyone at risk of being taken. Once the group could be tracked through the people it has kidnapped, surround them, and move inwards until you have gotten them all.

As popular as hatred of Islamic fundamentalists is, I think these guys really take the cake for most screwed up and depraved " religious " group.

Uh, what's to stop the LRA from just cutting the chips out of people with their machetes? Not like they care if some of them die in the process.

I had thought about that, but I was guessing that there would be ways to get around it, suck as hiding the chips by putting them in random places, or where they would not be visible. Also, there is the possiility that we not reveal that the " shots " are actually injecting microchips. I realize that is rather underhanded and perhaps unfair to the people getting them, but in the pursuit of eliminating the threat of the LRA, I think it could be justified. How well it could work I think depends on how much of an understanding of technology the people in the LRA have. By the sounds of it, they should have practically none, but an expert on them would know far better than I. Do they even know what a microchip is, and how it could be used to track someone?

They know enough not to get caught despite whatever technologies have so far been brought to bare to track them, which probably include satellites, drones, etc. People that can do what they do and succeed at it for years may be evil, but usually aren't stupid.
