Well I just want to get some opinions here, but the green party now stands a good chance at getting two seats in parliment, both from B.C. They are being polled at 13% in B.C, which is 2% higher then the voter support for the NDP in 2000 which managed to get 2 seats in B.C. I think it is very likely the Green party could be coming to ottawa, but i wonder how much of an impact they would really have. Other then probabley give the party a boost in popularity, as well as mroe access to the media, it probabley would not be able to amke a huge impact, but perhaps it coudl be a stepping stool for the green's.

Jim Harris, leader of the Greens, is an ex-Tory. a right winger, who I believe lives in Toronto. ;)

People who say they support the Greens/will vote Green are disproportionately young. And young people tend to spend election days sitting at home, watching TV and going "Eh, there's an election on?" if you mention it to them.

There'll be no Greens in parliament.

Some people say it is common knowledge that the Liberals engineered a deal with the PCs in the 2000 election basically as follows:

Liberals would support Joe Clark in Calgary, and PCs would support Landslide Annie in Edmonton, and other ridings as well.

Well, if the above were true, could it not also be possible for arrangements to be made for the pollsters to play around with the polls?

For example. if Ipsos-Reid started including the Christian Heritage party as an option in their questionnaire about which party you are voting for, I can pretty well guarantee you that the Christian Heritage party would start doing better in the polls as well, similiar to the Green party, now that Ipsos-Reid is including them as an option. Just ask yourself which of the major parties benefits most from having Green party on the list of party choices, and you may well get your answer as to what is going on.

With our present first-past-the-post system the Greens will not elect anyone.

I see a difference between the Christian Heritage Party and the Greens. Look, the Conservatives split. It appears the Liberals are in the process of splitting. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen to the NDP. Didn't they once have the waffle group?

Blaming a polling firm, or some secret Liberal machination, strikes me as well... blaming the messenger for bad news.

The Greens have been successful in Europe. But I agree that our first past the post method means they'll elect no one.

If I understand properly, it is the debate organizers (the CBC) that has decided to exclude the Green leader. If there's a conspiracy, that's more likely.

Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

The bizarre thing about the Green party is that the leadership is right wing., both federally, and in British Columbia. And that is what precludes them from impacting on the NDP vote.

Gotta love Martin trying to cuddle up to Layton and his progressive ideas, for the election campaign only, of course.

That's the old Liberal story. "The NDP are Liberals in a hurry." "The Liberals steal all their ideas from the NDP."

But when the government takes about half of people's income, there isn't much more progress left in progressive.

I don't think anyone knows that the Greens are right wing. Enviromentalists are just assumed to be left wing and I doubt anyone here could name one plank of their platform without checking the wesite ( I certainly can't).

All too often the prize goes, not to who best plays the game, but to those who make the rules....

That was quite a forecast probably based on the nonsense you read in the mainstream press. Maybe you should be more careful when you get your information.

Does anyone know the seat where the Greens had their best showing?

It wasn't Saanich Gulf Islands was it?
