WIP Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Well, Lara Logan sure looks a whole lot nicer than Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite. The problem is that if I want to find out what's going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, I don't care if I'm watching a former swimsuit model...who even looks good in a helmet and flak jacket I might add...I just want to know what's going on over there!...and then I'll look at her picsafterward! But here's the little homewrecker going after the Rolling Stone's Michael Hastings for publishing Gen. McCrystal's (and other staff members) candid remarks about the situation in Afghanistan and opinions on the civilian administrators that he has to answer to: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-baker/2010/06/27/cbss-logan-zings-hastings-he-s-never-served-his-country-way-mcchrystal- http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6609822n&tag=mncol;lst;2 My question is why isn't Lara or any other MSM mouthpiece asking the generals and the President why this war makes sense, and pressing them about that illusory July 2011 deadline! Think of all of the questions Lara could have asked McCrystal, instead of getting all chummy with him over in Kabul...like what was his involvement in the policy to allow torture of suspected Taliban prisoners? Or what was his role in the cover up of Pat Tillman's death by friendly fire? Nevermind his MacArthur complex that allowed him to shoot off his mouth like a foreign potentate. Logan clearly sees herself as an adjunct member of the Administration and the U.S. Military, rather than providing critical analysis -- which is what journalists are supposed to do! The real journalists today are on the staff of the Rolling Stone or starting whistleblower sites like Wikileaks....speaking of which, the founder of Wikileaks is on the run for exposing a video of U.S. troops executing civilians, including an Iraqi journalist. No charges against the soldiers for committing execution-style slayings; they just want the guy who exposed them to the world! And a compliant, embedded media that doesn't even attempt to separate itself from the people they are supposed to be reporting on, is a key reason why these wars are dragging on, and in this high tech age, we know less about what is going on there than we did during the Vietnam War! bush_cheney2004 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 ...My question is why isn't Lara or any other MSM mouthpiece asking the generals and the President why this war makes sense, and pressing them about that illusory July 2011 deadline! Because that very pedestrian question has already been answered many times. Your interpretation or dislike of the answer/politics does not make for a valid indictment of MSM. WIP Posted July 2, 2010 Author Report Posted July 2, 2010 I like her pics too. She certainly matches any of the Foxnews bimbos, especially the overrated Megyn Kelly! 1) If you don't like what she has to say then why read it? That's not the point! The question is why aren't the major news networks and the national newspapers doing their job, and reporting the news instead of working for the people they are covering? Lara Logan typifies the new journalism -- which is so concerned with having a beer with Hillary Clinton in a bar in Scranton, Pennsylvania that they can't ask the hard questions for fear of losing access. And that's what Lara is really pissed about! She, and other MSM journalists who've jumped all over Rolling Stone, are only worried that the sources will keep them at a distance also....even though they only write propaganda puff pieces on behalf of the people they cover. 2) How do you know that she is the "little homewrecker?" Maybe the guy is the homewrecker? Yeah, that's what Joe Burkett's soon to be ex-wife says also! But her divorce filing named Lara Logan as the other woman, and to make things interesting, Burkett seems to have gotten into a fight with CNN's Michael Ware over in Baghdad...who was also dating her. Can't say I blame them though! http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/65056 Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973
bloodyminded Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) That's not the point! That's exactly correct. When the rare journalist appears who does not perform as stenographer, the other stenographers begin to worry. Sourcing, as it stands, is inexpensive and easy, because spokespeople and PR agents are the majority of sources. So that even when someone like McChrystal is interviewed, there is an unwritten expectation that they, too, are "official spokespersons," and will fulfill the same role. And journalists act accordingly. Logan isn't the only one; others have exposed themselves in their criticism of Hastings also. Including the New York Times. (You know, those "anti-American lefties.") The fact is, when journalists report only officialspeak, they are not giving us information about the subject; they are giving us only official statements about the subject. (That's not the same thing.) It would be nice if journalists could remember this important distinction a little more often. Here's Matt Taibi: If there’s a lower form of life on the planet earth than a “reputable” journalist protecting his territory, I haven’t seen it. Borg Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Great body, decent face. Stick her with a few thousand troops that have not smelled anything other than piss, puke, sweaty body armour and have not showered in 20 days of 45 plus temperatures and she could have anything she wanted from them. Perfect choice from an editors point of view - and who cares what happened in the "safe house" and as to who she is boffing - I can name a hundred guys that would gladly stand in if the opportunity came along. Let her do what makes money for the networks and the outfit she works for - when that stops she will have to find new employment. In other words - you might not like it - but she is doing what her company demands because the people who own the company make lots of money from it. Can't say I blame them though! http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/65056 This is quite the joke. Yes, the pun in the thread title should have been a tip off that this whole thing is a joke. I mean, to complain about the MSM and then point us to the National Enquirer? What's the shorthand for snorting out loud? SOL? To be fair, at least the NE is basing their story on some hard evidence but I have a hard time calling anyone a "homewrecker" when it takes two to tango and one would expect the wife to accuse the other woman of wrongdoing. It's already been noted above what an impact a girl like Lara Logan must have landing in the middle of a sausage fest in the Middle East, but her problems trying to decide who she wants to pick among the hundreds of guys hanging all over her, is not what I found objectionable. It's that she has turned out to be just like all of the other so-called investigative journalists who are only concerned about access, and have become so co-opted by the people they cover, that they are totally in the tank with the people they are supposed to be reporting about. The thread is based upon what you consider a sellout from the MSM. Neither Logan nor Hasting's has betrayed their trade. I do think that Hastings is not an in depth Journalist and doesn't really understand the dynamics of the military. Personal opinion in the military is basically overridden by chain of command. Personal opinion and personal comments mean nothing when it comes to the profession of the military. The individual overrides his own opinion. What Hastings presented in his article was his observation without understanding the dynamic. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.

What Hastings presented in his article was his observation without understanding the dynamic. It's not just about those two, but how the rest of the media is covering the story. Notice that it's all about what McCrystal & Co. said about the Administration...what about what McCrystal said about the odds against winning the war! Why the hell isn't that getting any attention? And that means Hastings is the only thing resembling a real journalist in Afghanistan, since he's the only one who's told the rest of us the story!
