Kliege Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Mike Duffy just handed out a teaser to Stephen Harper. Said that Lloyd Robertson will have news tonight that Harper will enjoy! I think we can assume that CTV is about to release a new Ipsos poll, and that it's going to reveal some good news for the CPC. Heads up!!! Quote
Dennis Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Yes, here it is Grits 34, Tories 30, NDP 16, Bloc 15 ahead in Que. The Liberals are, so far, trending downwards, while the NDP is still mired at about the same level they have been for the past year. The Liberals and Tories are about neck-and-neck in Ontario, while the NDP has slid significantly in BC. Yes, this is a good news poll for Stephen Harper indeed. Quote
August1991 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Is is hard not to imagine that Jean Chretien is ultimately behind this Liberal collapse. It's the typical swipe of a collégien, aimed very specifically at Jean Lapierre. In Chrétien's mind, like in Trudeau's, a Harper government is better than a Martin/Lapierre government. If Harper wins, there will be a Liberal leadership race in short order. Tradition has it that a francophone will be the next leader. There are only three possiobles: Lapierre, Pettigrew and Dion. There is no doubt which of these will get Chrétien`s support. Canada has some kind of lucky star. The damned thing can't be put down. Quote
Kliege Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 Its always been in the back of my mind that Jean Chretien could be behind the collapse of Paul Martin. He as had an extreme dislike for him since the 1990 leadership race and haven't you wondered why Chretien changed his plans to retired in Fed to Dec. Does anyone think that Chretien had planned the downfall of Martin long ago? It would be in Chretien interest not to have Paul Martin continue as Prime Minister and replace him as Liberal Leader with one of his allies. I have this feeling that this may be the case. Quote
Dennis Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 There are only three possiobles: Lapierre, Pettigrew and Dion. There is no doubt which of these will get Chrétien`s support. You really think Dion is the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada? Well, apparently, he is an underestimated force. But I don't know if I see party leader in him. People have been bouncing around the name of Frank Mackenna, but he's not really a francophone. I'm not sure if the Liberals can hold on to that rule of theirs, especially with Manley and Tobin waiting in the wings. But this kind of speculation is way too early. Still need to see how Paul Martin manages the mess he's gotten himself into right now. Quote
August1991 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Speculation isn't the word. This is almost fabulation. But kinda fun. And there is an inexorable logic to it. Well, apparently, he is an underestimated force. The holy grail of successful politicians in a post-modern era. How long will this last?Actually, a House with Dion and Harper facing off would be good for everyone. Like Disraeli and Gladstone? BTW, what religion is Harper? Quote
Kliege Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 No one knows what religion he is, he as never talked about it. Thats whats so funny about the Liberals trying to make him out to be some fundementelist and why know one believes them. Quote
Kiraly Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 BTW, what religion is Harper? Stephen Harper is Protestant Quote
