Shady Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Obama needs to fire Rahm Emanuel immediately. This is the second time Emanuel has leaked to the press in as many weeks. Both times to the Washington Post, who reciprocated with glowing reviews of how great and important Rahm Emanuel is to the White House. Hotheaded Emanuel may be White House voice of reasonBut a contrarian narrative is emerging: Emanuel is a force of political reason within the White House and could have helped the administration avoid its current bind if the president had heeded his advice on some of the most sensitive subjects of the year: health-care reform, jobs and trying alleged terrorists in civilian courts. Link Question. How long will Emanuel stay on as cheif of staff? I give him until after healthcare is finished with. Quote
GostHacked Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Shady, the quote does not match the rhetoric of your post. You want the voice of reason in the white house fired right away, but then ask how long it will be before he leaves the position. That whole article is essentially supporting Emanuel. But I'll chalk this up as a 'Shady Post'. Quote
Bugs Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Question. How long will Emanuel stay on as cheif of staff? I give him until after healthcare is finished with. I think the Obama team is going to have to give up some bodies, in a false atonement exercise, in the future -- but not now, and not yet. Healthcare is going to be treated as a victory for them. They may want to change styles in Congress, but the Democrats see their first year as one of willing collaboration with the Republicans. (What they mean is they are willing to give some Republicans some of the pork.) Obama's real problem is the economy. Bernanke is safe, but Gleithner is vulnerable. I think they work as a team, in reality, and Obama would sacrifice Rahm to save Gleithner because, after all ... Bernanke prints the money. Quote
Shady Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Shady, the quote does not match the rhetoric of your post. The quote is another example of Emanuel's leak to the press, in order to have a more favourable story written about him. He's gone behind the President's back, as well as trashed several members of the White House staff. This may explain things better. Rahm Emanuel: Obama's Chief Of SabotageFirst came perpetually disgruntled columnist Dana Milbank, suddenly a little ray of sunshine on the subject of the terribly underappreciated chief of staff: "Obama's first year fell apart in large part because he didn't follow his chief of staff's advice on crucial matters," Milbank wrote. "Arguably, Emanuel is the only person keeping Obama from becoming Jimmy Carter." Indeed, the most remarkable spectacle here is the ease with which Emanuel has been able to find reliable vessels to carry his water. Oh, to see his media speed-dial, and its collection of nattering process junkies, smug contrarians, split-the-difference stenographers, center-worshipping priests of High Broderism and corporatist cocktail-partiers who enable Emanuel's brand of soulless political gamesmanship.
