http://www.timescolonist.com/sports/2010wintergames/look+inside+secret+police+military+Olympic+command+centre/2473573/story.html

Note the games have not occured yet. What here DOESN'T seem "secret".

The other funny thing is that JTF2 is deployed to the olympics - yet there is a war half way around the world, "short on personnel"

A terrorist attack that suceeded at the games would put Canada on the map.

It would probably spike ratings 1000% fold. Yet perhaps billions are being spent on security. Is an attack actually possible now that those missing tons of explosives precursors have been accounted for?

I love how this reporter in their openly accessable news story states

"The entire facility is classified “secret,” "

The definition of Secret classification is:

Such material would cause "grave damage" to national security if it were publicly available.

The picture of the inside of the building sorta makes me wonder here... Is the report giving misinformation, or is the reporter violating national security guidelines OR am I and everyone reading this given secret clearance?

Who here doesn't have secret clearance?

The games appear to be Canada's largest deployment..

6,000 police, 4,500 Canadian Forces soldiers, and 5,000 private security guards

This beats out the 2000-3000 in and around haiti and the 3000 or so in Afghanistan

this means that active deployments are actually taking up probably around 1/4 of canadian forces regular personnel levels right now

If Ranier was commander of the post I bet he would post snipers at the gates.

"Any incident that could affect public safety or security, from a street fight or shootout to a downed power line or a traffic jam, are to be monitored from start to finish."

I'm not sure if you remember my post on "big brother is watching"

But what type of surveilance infrastructure does this imply?

What I want to know is who the heck is that shadowy gun-happy Ranier you speak of? I'll understand if that information is too secret for the public to know.

Did you ever hear about the special forces offier who sodomized armory guards in quebec, in an operation to test the security of the armory.

Apparently the armory gaurd who was sodomized with the shotgun filed charges.

Also there is the somolia affair, and the posting of soilders to stop thefts catagorized as sabatouge during the operation. It was not without incident.

Here is one of the stories..

http://www.paratrooper.net/commo/Topic181288-57-3.aspx

My bad it was a typo

rainville

"Rainville led a JTF2 "exercise" against Van Doos in Quebec City, ostensibly testing security of the Citadel's weapons locker. Wearing ski masks and carrying shotguns and UZI machine pistols, the pretend terrorists overpowered two soldiers on guard duty, stripped, beat, tortured, bound them with duct tape and threatened to kill them unless they co-operated. One soldier was sodomized with a baton and then a shotgun.

"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somalia_Affair

see the March 4 killing heading.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Rainville

he is definately the type of person you wanna team up with vancover's police forces. I didn't have plans on going to vancover anyway.

I know only one incident of beating a suspected wife beater but accidentally going to the wrong door and beating up the wrong person.

Well then. No need for you to worry that Rainville will be assigned to the Olympics as he was long ago expelled from the military.

If you are going to make an accusation of this behavior of JTF2 against the Van Doos, and that this bullshit is fact, I expect you to post an article or evidence other than some "paratrooping forum" you frickin wingnut.

Supply the evidence or get the hell off the board.

It is public record - if you dispute the authenticity of the many reports or the somalia affair I suggest you state it at places like wikipedia.

Are you disputing it didn't occur?

As far as I am aware even army.ca is sorta a pseudogovernmental website or atleast registered to the Canadian Forces via domain registry.

http://forums.army.ca/forums/index.php?topic=2253.0

It is also mentioned here in gc.ca domain

http://www.jmc-cmj.forces.gc.ca/dec/2006/doc/2006ecm041f-eng.pdf

Contrary to what Judge Verdon decided in R. v. Rainville,

cited by the prosecution, the offence of pointing a firearm is not similar in nature to the

offences with which Captain Rainville was charged. That is why Judge Verdon

concluded that the Court saw no factual or legal basis for any defence of excuse or

justification, which is not the situation in this case.

oddly the Somalia inquiry got a lot more coverage.

The case is R. v. Rainville that is part of the reason I remember the guy. He Sodomized under orders... to use means of extraction a terrorist may attempt. Rainville felt that putting loaded shotgun up someones (another Canadian Forces member) but might suffice in terrorist extraction methods. Go figure.

It is a funny citation

"Contrary to what Judge Verdon decided in R. v. Rainville,

cited by the prosecution, the offence of pointing a firearm is not similar in nature to the

offences with which Captain Rainville was charged."

Here is a newspaper article in google news.

My bad that is another serviceman with the lastname rainville who commited sodomy - ignore the google link do follow the forces.gc.ca and army.ca links.

It is mentioned here though

Why don't you just admit you don't know what you're talking about. I strongly suggest you contact the mods and request they remove this thread.

William you never cease to amaze me with your twisting of facts and figures...thats quit a reach having to go all the way back to 1991-92 to dig up some dirt on the JTF....must have been a slow day for you and the media....I really impressed the way you go from talking about Security for the games into a thread slamming the JTF and military....Not bad for a guy who wants to join the military...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

I don't think he is going to join the ranks of our citizen soldiers anytime soon.

I would have to say that you are probably correct. I was interested in joining the reserve a year or two ago, unfortunately I got stuck on the medical, and my doctor, I guess stated I wasn't eligible. My previous family doctor wouldn't even fill out the UKMOD forms. My life has changed since then, and the only pseudo reserve at my new permanent address is the rangers, problem is, now that I'm out of school, I'm not all that stationary anymore. Unless something changes it, I'll be travelling again next/fall/winter, and even now am planning another trip to latin america in a month.

I'm not a reg forces person, as I'd like to reserve my choice to go to war if parliament doesn't feel it is serious enough that it requires reserve drafting, at this age, any military prospects become increasingly slim, and I'm disqualified from normal officer entry due to max entry age being passed. I'm more into the "justified, meaningful, and intelligent war" type of person, defence operations (re: war in Canada or as a response to an actual attack by a nation on Canada), emergency response, etc.. I'm not the overthrow type.

I did volunteer though, and was committed to it. Forces didn't want me, apparently for medical reasons, end of story I guess. Life goes on.

I also just found out I have an ECG exclusion on medical studies due to my heart rate falling under 50 (I have a low resting heart rate as I long distance jog, do endurance workouts) it is becoming increasingly hard to even be a guinea pig now.

As for the 91/92 stuff I knew about that long ago, I pretty much came upon the info accidentally though while researching JTF and the SOP.

I just found another contradiction in reporting:

15,000 RCMP officers on the Olympic roster

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/2010wintergames/cops+leaving+Olympic+security/2467614/story.html

This article says 6000. Hmm another inaccuracy.

Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit will cover nearly $500 million of the $900-million Olympic security budget.

It is funny to note that olympic security is costing more than afghanistan for 1/12th the period ...

and another reporting contradiction

"and another 4,000 are expected to support security efforts at next month's Olympic Games."

http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5g1bX53Nahj8YSxE7DIQXSGiZCOtQ

This appears that either the officer at the security head quarters misquoted or Mckay misquoted, or the reported misquoted Mckay

Security is huge buisness. Think of the billions awarded to private contractors who are friends of the Bush Cheney gang. As for media - what the hell are they doing..every time Bin Laden sqeaks off a speel into that cheap battery powered tape recorder..they run a free add for the bastard that is worth at least 50 million bucks world wide if you had to buy the air time.
