Topaz Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Greg Thompson, minister to Veterans Affairs is retiring and leaving when the next election happens. The Tories do have a number of "old" guys and I would think they would start to thinks its time to go, its not fun anymore. http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/front/article/922505 Quote
capricorn Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 "Anybody who has served in public life has talked to him," public policy guru, Donald Savoie, said in an interview."It's a very demanding world. He served with honour and my hat is off to him. We should all be thankful for those out there like Greg Thompson who are willing to serve." How true. I wish Mr. Thompson a very happy retirement. nothinarian Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) How true. I wish Mr. Thompson a very happy retirement. I hope it is not the big C as he had a go around with it a few years back. From all accounts he was a committed parliamentarian with a strong work ethic. On a cynical note, the reformatory gang are probably smiling as another progressive conservative has been retired from the ranks, especially as he was front and centre during the Tory/Reform-Alliance battles between 1990 and 2003. madmax Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 These retirements are non issues. Its better they come up now and give time for new people to step up in a forthcoming election. IIRC Inky Mark announced he was retiring. Anyone seen Blueblood, its time to step up to the plate Quote
Topaz Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Posted January 17, 2010 I heard through the grapevine that there may be a change in Foreign Affairs. Cannon is looking thinner, don't know if he dieting or nerves getting to him or somethig else. We'll see how right the vine is. Quote

Inky is the guy who followed marching orders from his constituents other than party brass, and as a result is on the back bench for it. However by listening to his constituents, he does win elections by more than 50% of the vote on a regular basis. You told me all about him and as you are a sane individual (although I can't prove it) and I can have a coherent discussion that is both frank and respectful with you, I feel he should be replaced with someone of equal calibre and not a party hack or lapdog. madmax Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 consistent pattern... when the going gets tough - Conservatives don't want to participate in government I met Greg Thompson last year. He was the most non partisan Conservative I have met. I believe he could work with anyone. I don't think its fun to laugh at someone who has decided that the grind of politics and travelling is no longer for him. Many politicians make that same decision. Quote
Alta4ever Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I met Greg once at our Legion, he seemed to be a very caring and generous man. Canadians are loosing a good Parliamentarian. In any case, I was laughing as much at the title of the linked article... but I actually like this New Zealand newspaper one better - Go to NZ? No way - I quit, says minister Quote
