NDP fast out of the gate

Layton lays out promises, pledges no deficits

NDP strategists are banking on Layton's energy, snappy quotes and wit to appeal to broader range of voters. CTV's Rosemary Thompson says Layton seems to be succeeding in getting his party off to a fast start.

"On Sunday, they had a colourful campaign launch on Parliament Hill. Then, it was a quick trip out to Vancouver, there was a rally last night, then here's the platform today -- it's going like clockwork," she says.

"According to NDP veterans I've talked to, they've never seen the party on this kind of high. Ed Broadbent compares it to the feeling he had in 1988, when he won 43 seats in the House of Commons -- a record Jack Layton would love to break. It won't be easy but I'm sure he's going to try."

Layton spent Victoria Day in Vancouver with his wife and political partner, Olivia Chow at his side. They had lunch in Chinatown.

The party is hoping to make inroads among B.C. Chinese-Canadian voters who are angry at Martin for appointing one of his own handpicked candidates above two Chinese-Canadian Liberals.

Olivia, born in Hong Kong, has already started to impact on BC's Chinese commiunity. Everywhere Jack was, on every TV shot, since he arrived on the West Coast, Olivia was there.

NDP fast out of the gate

Enough with the NDP cheerleading.

The passage you posted was fine.

The spin and hysterical praise you're bestowing upon your own party is a wee bit transparent, don't you think?

Or does the NDP need all the hyping it can get from its cheeleading section in order to be considered a serious party in this country?

NDP jumps on unpopular B.C. Liberals

New Democrats believe the flagging fortunes of the B.C. provincial Liberals are hurting federal Liberals, creating tight three-way races in many ridings.

The NDP's hopes were given credence during the weekend when David Anderson, B.C.'s top federal cabinet minister, said voter dissatisfaction with the provincial government is undermining federal Liberal hopes in the province./

NDP campaign manager Gerry Scott said that his party is polling "extremely well" on Vancouver Island -- a region where provincial Liberals are in a slump. "Every seat on the Island we believe we can win right now. They're three-way fights

I am looking forward to some new polls. ;)
