g_bambino Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Realistically the Queen has less power in Canada than the Governor General. Err... What do you mean by "realistically"? Without the Queen, the governor general has no power. Quote
William Ashley Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 So this is in the news again... seeing other people start up threads.. but this one already exists... lets not start threads that already exist people Quote I was here.
Bonam Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Allegiance is not, however, given to that royal figure as an individual so much as to the Crown and other institutions and concepts the sovereign represents within both the federal and provincial spheres,[n 2][10][12] including the state, its constitution and traditions,[9] unity, authority,[13] and democracy,[10][12][14] as well as, in the military context, the highest authority in the Canadian Forces.[15][16] How can this statement be accurate? It specifically mentions that allegiance is given to "institutions and concepts" including "unity". If allegiance to the concept of unity was required then certainly it could be objectively demonstrated that Bloc MPs are/were demonstrating a complete lack of allegiance to this concept, and thus are both unfit to sit in the house and, moreover, perjurers. It just says unity; it doesn't say unity of what. It could be interpreted as meaning unified in adherence to the rule of law. Bloc MPs advocate Quebec independence, but not by armed rebellion. Quote
William Ashley Posted July 6, 2010 Author Report Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) OK so Jean was appointed as a UNESCO ambassador to Haiti, and the new GG is maybe going to be anounce the end of this week at the earliest - could it be lazardis, with the queen recently visiting RIM and personally touring with lazaridis? Harper is also visiting Stephen Hawking at his home - could this prominent physicist be the next? Note that lazardis founded the perimiter institute for theoretical physics, which recently brought hawking to canada? note that former UW president david johnston who was also voice as a potential was in contact at UW board of govenors meetings - with lazaridis who was the ... yada yada.. he is also recently order of canada... Jack Weber Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 If it's the Dave Johnston I'm thinking about,he would be the first guy on the list... Johnston was the Chair of Management Board (amongst other titles) during the first Harris mandate.Seeing as Mr.Harper really likes his Harrisite hacks,Johnston is the logical choice... Uncle 3 dogs Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Oh, but that shrill voice; just imagine him delivering a national speech on Canada Day, or at a state dinner abroad. The invites from foreign governments would dry right up! Now that would "make my head explode" Quote
