ToadBrother Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Define huge.... Is huge, "power broker" huge? Or is huge, "thank god Nato is keeping the Taliban at bay or we seculur apostates would all be beheaded" huge? That pretty much applies to the entire Afghan government, secular or otherwise. The whole regime stands only because NATO is sacrificing its blood to keep a crook in power. I'm all for the Afghanistan mission, but I think we should stop pretending that the Mayor of Kabul and his croneys are anything but a pack of bandits who will steal what they can while NATO is in town, and bugger off with their ill gotten loot (a chunk of it, no doubt, our money) to wring their hands in chique expatriate salons in Paris, London and New York. What we should is take Karazai, dump in the middle of a Taliban stronghold as a peace offering and find someone who actually has any interest in creating a functioning government. We sully ourselves and mock the death of our troops by backing that twisted little worm. Quote
bloodyminded Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Define huge.... Is huge, "power broker" huge? Or is huge, "thank god Nato is keeping the Taliban at bay or we seculur apostates would all be beheaded" huge? She is the youngest Member of Parliament, and a woman. She came in 2nd in her province...a secular, 20-something year old woman in Afghanistan, an avowed feminist, educated in secret, who has spoken out for many years against the Taliban...as well as speaking out agaist the Warlords/Northern Alliance factions who are identical to the Taliban in every way (you know: our warm and fuzzy freedom-loving allies). Her achievement is monumental; what it says about how a lot of Afghans think and feel is meaningful indeed. Especially since merely supporting her can be seen as somewhat dangerous. And NATO obviously hasn't protected her (you might consider one word before you make wild claims: "research."): She has survived FOUR assassination attempts...yeah, this glorious "we" are protecting the apostate. Right. Good job, huh? No, for the most part, Canadian, US and European officialdom are not her friend. Sure, she's a secular, freedom-loving democrat...but we prefer the misogynistic gangsters. Much more obedient to our wishes. Which makes them the Good Guys. M.Dancer Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 She is the youngest Member of Parliament, and a woman. She came in 2nd in her province So huge is a small fry.... And NATO obviously hasn't protected her (you might consider one word before you make wild claims: "research."): She has survived FOUR assassination attempts...yeah, this glorious "we" are protecting the apostate. Right. Good job, huh? Wow....so she would have been able to run for elections then during the Taliban regime? No? Why is that? Might oit be that NATO have denied the Taliban the ability to vet candidates? I notice you mention she was educated in secret. Why? You might want to think first before brain farting. ...but we prefer the misogynistic gangsters. Much more obedient to our wishes. Which makes them the Good Guys. That's right. Big Fish can accomplish more than small frys. Like making sure the Taliban can't force people to educate girls is secret or prevent secular apostate females from coming in second in elections....If the secualar woman wants to accomplish anything in Afghanistan, she had better model herself after B. Bhutto. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

Like making sure the Taliban can't force people to educate girls is secret or prevent secular apostate females from coming in second in elections....If the secualar woman wants to accomplish anything in Afghanistan, she had better model herself after B. Bhutto. Well. First of all, you support the gangsters and misogynistic killers OVER the secular democrats, because...well, because you like to fol,low our Great Leadewrs, who are Wise and Just. (Oh...and also, because you never even bothered to educate yourself ABOUT our sweet little allies, and are probably peeved at your own massive oversight on this matter.) Second, how can the "big fish" (ie gangsters who remain powerful because of OUR support, not because of some inherent merit) "accomplish more"--in the way of freedom, secular government, women's and children's rights--when they OPPOSE these things...how can they "accomplish more" of this than the people who SUPPORT such things? Do you support the Iranian Mullahs over the public dissidents? Why not? That is roughly your stance in Afghanistan. The people most closely aligned with what you CLAIM is your wish are the people you deride and dismiss with contempt. (No doubt periodically maoning "where are all the good Muslims" even as you scorn them.) And the people directly opposed to what you claim to wish for Afghanistan are the "big fish" whom you refuse to even criticize. They are identical to the Taliban in every substantive way. Did you not know that? So, you claim to support secular democracy and women's rights--while opposing the secular democrats and the people fighting for women's rights. In Afghanistan. While you support and defend the people opposed to secular democracy and women's rights. Up is down. Wheeeee.
