jdobbin Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2009...-candidacy.html Political maverick Garth Turner said Monday he has resigned his candidacy after being recruited by the Liberals to run in the Ontario riding of Dufferin-Caledon in the next federal election. Haven't heard anything behind the story thus far. Quote
madmax Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2009...-candidacy.htmlHaven't heard anything behind the story thus far. Story says it all. I don't think there is anymore to it. Besides, Turner is better off without the LPC and visa versa. I do like his parting shots at CPC fiscal incompetence. He knows the CPC is raising taxes. Quote
capricorn Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Janet Rosenstock, Membership Chair of the Dufferin-Caledon FLA said, "I am not sure Mr. Turner's reasons for leaving are indeed his reasons for leaving. Another candidate for nomination had come forward and was in process. Perhaps Mr. Turner did not want to face a fight for the nomination. As far as Mr. Turner's feeling that the Leadership would not grant him a nomination meeting is concerned, there are rules that must be followed. Every FLA must have a certain level of membership before a nomination meeting can be granted. The Membership level is lowered during what is called, 'Electoral Urgency.' Our 'Electoral Urgency' number is roughly 175. We needed about 12 more members. Mr. Turner and his supporters were told repeatedly that anomination meeting could and would be held when the required level of membership was reached. Two and one half months later, Mr. Turner and his supporters had failed to sign up a sufficient number of members." http://stevejanke.com/archives/293578.php Garth is not a team player. Garth is for Garth. It's good the Liberals are rid of him. Just ask the Conservatives. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
fellowtraveller Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Npbody wants him except the sad bastards who believe what he has to say about Candian real estae, much of which is turning out to be wrong. Quote The government should do something.
Michael Hardner Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I love Turner. He speaks very plainly and trusts the voters, and always has. There's some truth in describing his unwillingness to play along with the team, but the teams play a cynical game too: Turner also took aim at the federal deficit and "profligate spending," while criticizing a lack of debate about options and "honest conversations with voters and citizens" about the consequences. I would love to hear his ideas about redoing democracy. Maybe I'll invite him to MLW ... Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Mr.Canada Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Turner is a trouble maker nobody wants. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
Smallc Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I would love to hear his ideas about redoing democracy. Maybe I'll invite him to MLW ... I believe you can read about them in his book...and I think he's in favour of a full presidential republic. Quote
