maplesyrup Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Liberals plan early ad attack on Harper The Martin Liberals are preparing to bring out the "heavy artillery" next week, launching a barrage of attack ads aimed at demonizing Conservative Leader Stephen Harper — an early strike in what is expected to be a nasty campaign by all parties. The ads, quoting contentious statements Mr. Harper has made over the years on issues such as immigration, are expected to be broadcast next week — except in Quebec — just days before a probable election call and in the pre-writ period when election spending rules do not apply. This could seriously backfire on the Liberals. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. maplesyrup Posted May 13, 2004 Author Report Posted May 13, 2004 Poor Larry zolf. Is there a Liberals Anonymous he could attend? He really is a broken record. Attack ads The first said simply: "If Stephen Harper became prime minister, you'd have two health care options. Be rich. Or don't get sick." The second ad was equally effective: "If Stephen Harper was prime minister last year, Canadian troops would be in Iraq this year." Slavik44 Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Just remember a vote for the NDP is a vote for the conservative party of canada. maplesyrup Posted May 13, 2004 Author Report Posted May 13, 2004 Just remember a vote for the NDP is a vote for the conservative party of canada. Now there's a deep thought. Liberals, I believe, think Canadians are brain-dead. One would think after years of saying one thing, when one crosses the floor, one would have the smarts to keep a low profile, but no these clowns think they come with bragging rights, which often leads to ridicule at their own expense. Do you know any Canadian politician who has successfully crossed the floor? I cannot think of any off hand. Actually what the Liberals are really saying with that comment, is that a vote for the Conservatives or the NDP is not a vote for the Liberals. Well, duh! odie441 Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 The Liberals are definetly trying my patience. I am not committed to any political party, actually I usually vote for the person I think will do the best for my riding. I do follow what the various party leaders say and do. I also spend a lot of time investigating their policies and if they are doing what they say. On the provincial level, I have totally given up on believing anything out of Daltons mouth. You know he's lying because his lips are moving. On the federal level I am just sick and tired of the BS flowing from the Liberal mouth pieces. I know they're lying cause their lips are moving. Do I see a pattern here? Seriously, if the Liberals want to sling mud, I hope they can turn those big Bull Shite shovels of theirs around because they are going to need them when they get buried in the mud from the other parties. There is so much amunition to use against the Liberals that the other parties do not have to get dirty, just quote all of their broken promises and lies over the last 10 years. Quote
Kiraly Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Do you know any Canadian politician who has successfully crossed the floor? I cannot think of any off hand. Not many thankfully, but David Kilgour had successfully crossed the floor. Quote
playfullfellow Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 The Liberals used the smear campaign last time with pretty good success so in their arrogance, they figure it will work again. They forget that Harper is not Day and that Harper will not ba as easily goaded into a mudslinging fight which this time around would be easy with all the recent scandals. I guess the Liberals are scared to run on their record this time around. Generally we always see the street bully resorting to dirty fighting when they are scared. For the first time in many years you see the Conservatives and the NDP fairly well organized with stable leadership. I look forward to any and all debates because for once, all candidates have to be taken seriously (whether you like it not) because we have a very good chance of seeing a minority government. The Liberls know this and hope fill peoples eye with mud so they can not see through this tactic. As the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Quote
August1991 Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I look forward to any and all debates because for once, all candidates have to be taken seriously (whether you like it not) because we have a very good chance of seeing a minority government. I expect the televised debate of the four leaders will be fascinating. Each is eloquent in their own way; the stakes are high; three are new faces. A point that is too often ignored: PM PM is old and he will appear old beside the others. As the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". The subtext of this election will be "If the Liberals win, then it means they can do anything and they know it." Most voters have yet to decide whom to vote for. This basic point will soon become apparent. Quote
