jdobbin
Neither of those promises were made. They promised to balance the budget next year which still might be doable, and they promised to cut all government programs by 1%. What do you mean they weren't made? Some of of the very links you have posted have said they were.

punked
What do you mean they weren't made? Some of of the very links you have posted have said they were. Nope there is a difference from going into deficit and balancing a budget a year out don't move the posts the NDP were very careful on this promise although I don't know if they can deliver that even. They also never promised not to cut the civil servants they promised not to fire everyone to hire NDP buddies as the Liberals and Conservatives do everytime they win. You are moving the posts again Dobbin.

fellowtraveller
Why would any governemnt promise not to cut civil service jobs if there are savings there?
punked
Why would any governemnt promise not to cut civil service jobs if there are savings there? They didn't they promised not to fire everyone who knows what they are doing to hire NDP members, like the Liberals and Conservatives do in NS. They kept that promise BTW. jdobbin
Quote it. Balanced budget, no politically motivated cuts to the civil service like the Liberals and Conservatives have done for years. You see, the head of the 26,000 civil servants in Nova Scotia took it to mean no cut to the civil service. You are saying that there will be cut but they won't be based on politics? I am saying if they fire civil servants it wont be to hire new ones that worked in the NDP for years like the Old boys Liberals and PCs have done for years. That was the promise and they kept it. You make it up, it seems. The promise was no program cuts. If you think that $73 million in cross the boards cuts is going to do, by all means. punked
You make it up, it seems. The promise was no program cuts. The promise was a 1% cut to all budgets Dobbin. Don't worry though NS didn't vote them in for those promises they voted them in cause the other guys sucked. So as long as they do a good job, they will be voted back in no matter what promises they break. That is the nature of NS politics all parties break their promises and no one cares unless they suck. The promise was to set a target for 1% cuts after a study. It was to save only $73 million according to the election platform. The promise was no program cuts. Nova Scotians elected a party that seems intent on breaking their promise. If you think that is going to be regarded as sucking, you are in for a surprise. As you can well imagine, the unions are saying they won't bend over and take it from Dexter of cutting programs or civil service.

Which promise have they broken in the month they have been office over the summer break Dobbin? Was to hold NS power to meeting sustainable energy targets? No wait they made that announcement last week. Was it the tax rebate to those who build or by new homes Dobbin? No wait they did that three weeks ago Was it to hire an out side office to look at the books so they could have a clear picture, and release those documents to the public? No wait that happened like 5 days ago. Was it get ride of the road side lobster tax? No wait they did that 6 days ago. How about creating a board to help the government figure out how make NS a competitive province? Nope they did that and guess what a lot of Liberals on that board. They have been in power for a month you can't do everything you promised for 4 years over a month you are just being a party hack now. Yes they face a 1.4 billion dollar budget gap in 2 years left behind by the PCs no one predicted it, and it will be hard but you are just being ridiculous. I will not continue to respond to this it is just getting crazy. The Liberals promise a 500million to 1 billion in news spending on top of the 1.4 billion dollar debt while the NDP promise cuts and you say the Liberals were being fiscally responsible. Enough. No. And now that is what they are looking at. The $78 million in cost savings won't cut the mustard and others were saying that during the election. Now look at them. They have been in power for a month you can't do everything you promised for 4 years over a month you are just being a party hack now. Yes they face a 1.4 billion dollar budget gap in 2 years left behind by the PCs no one predicted it, and it will be hard but you are just being ridiculous. They have been in power four months and they are already looking at cutting programs. They promised costs savings, not cuts in programs. The unions are going to scream betrayal at contract talks.
