Bonam Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Depends on the program. Yes, it does. However, the guy says that he and his friends couldn't get into college. When you apply, if you have any doubt of getting into your first choice program, you also apply to some backups, with progressively lower standards until you're sure you've applied to something that will definitely take you. For example, when applying for grad school, I applied to places like MIT, Caltech, Stanford, etc, but I also had some backups which I was more sure would accept me. Especially if you look into colleges rather than just universities, pretty much anyone that manages to graduate from high school can get into college in a general field of their choice, if not in the exact program that they might have hoped. And, of course, had they put in some actual effort in high school, they could no doubt have gotten into whichever program they wanted. Not being able to get into college is no one's fault but one's own, and certainly not the fault of our immigration policies or of a shortage of spaces in post-secondary institutions, as Craig implied. Smallc Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Oh, I agree, I was just stating that there are not low standards for everything. Quote

For the record im only 16 but was recomended for college classes in my secondary arts most of my friends are in grade 12 either 17-18 and most of them did not get into college or university. We have the UofA wich is full and they also tried to aply for secondary at NAIT and were also turned down, so now what we can do is apply to all the small hick town colleges in Alberta or maybe some other province but right now but for a education in Alberta we are shit out of luck. So if you have any positive recomendations that i can take and give to my friends i really have nothing much more to say to you. Quote
