Shady Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 House Orders Up Three Elite Jets Last year, lawmakers excoriated the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington, D.C., by private jet to attend a hearing about a possible bailout of their companies. But apparently Congress is not philosophically averse to private air travel: At the end of July, the House approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to buy three elite Gulfstream jets for ferrying top government officials and Members of Congress. Link Way to go Dems for being completelly tone deaf! And making the Republicans job much easier in 2010. Quote

Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) lists the airplane as one of the earmarks that he was asked to request" Those terrible Democrats being Republicans. Quote
waldo Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Way to go Dems for being completelly tone deaf! And making the Republicans job much easier in 2010. right - I'm sure it will become a campaign issue by the way, could you advise which of the approx 30 Republican members of the House Appropriations Committee voted/talked against including the (2) additional jets to the original Air Force request (of one new replacement jet)? Could you also advise which Republican members of the House voted against the related bill? make sure to advise which Republican members have historically refused to fly on the available airforce plane(s) An Armed Forces Press Service news story from 2004 said that the 201st counted “U.S. Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert [R-Ill.] and [then-Senate Armed Services Chairman] John Warner [R-Va.] among its frequent flyers.” Quote
Shady Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 LOL! The Republicans have no power in Washington, so trying to blame them for this appropriation is completely ridiculous. It was the Dems who denounced CEO's just 6 months ago, for travel to Washington using their private jets. Now they seem to have no problem using tax payer money to purchase their own jets to fly around in. They keep telling us that this is the worst recession since the great depression. I wish they'd start acting like it. Quote

Shady Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 Funny they get to vote and support it and not take any blame? Seems silly. Not true. The Dems control the appropriation committee. And because the appropriation committee viewed the additional aircraft as an expansion of an existing Defense Department program, it did not treat the money for two more planes as an earmark, and the legislation does not disclose which Member had requested the additional money. So much for the most ethical congress ever, and the most transparent administration ever. Btw, Dems outnumber Republicans 37 - 22 on the appropriations committee. So again, to blame Republicans is completely intellectually dishonest and absurd. Quote

Being haggled to death during a flight. Quote

Bonam Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 What's wrong with acquiring more jets? Quote
jdobbin Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Tommy Douglas always flew coach. Really? I've never read that before. Quote
punked Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Really? I've never read that before. It may have been just the first two NDP campaigns but when the other two parties flew in private air planes Tommy was flying Air Canada. Quote
GostHacked Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Tommy Douglas always flew coach. Yeah, but he is a Canadian politician. We are talking about USA democrats. Quote
punked Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Yeah, but he is a Canadian politician. We are talking about USA democrats. And Republicans. Quote

You're also not answering the previous requests put to you - to offer up which Republicans, committee or House at large, voted/talked against this. Talk about being "intellectually" dishonest and absurd. Edited August 6, 2009 by waldo Quote
