CANADIEN Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Again...I've never heard anyone claim "women deserve rape". If asked, since we're reading minds today, the average Joe Sixpack is likely to curb stomp you for the mere suggestion. The issue is not what you have heard or not heard. It is not the reaction that most people would have if someone said it to their face. It is not even your idiotic assumption that I claim to read mind. It is about the fact that there are people in Western societies who holds such opinion. 26% of Britons think that's a woman is at least partly responsible if she wears certain clothings, 20% if she has multiple sexual partners, according to poll conducted in 2005. Reminds me of that South Park episode where Cartman is walking down the school hall with Kyle, Stan and Kenny... Cartman: "Kyle why are you so afraid of the truth?" Kyle: "Cause anyone who thinks 9/11 was a conspiracy is a retard." Cartman: "Well did you know that over 1/4 of people in America think that 9/11 was a conspiracy? Are you saying that 1/4 of Americans are retards?" Kyle: "Yes, I'm saying 1/4 of Americans are retards" Stan: "Yeah... at least 1/4" Kyle: "Let's take a test sample, theirs 4 of us; you're a retard (points to Cartman) that's 1/4 Edited July 27, 2009 by DogOnPorch Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

I remember a time when it was said that women were raped twice... once by their rapist and again by the legal system. What she was wearing, where she was and her sexual history could and was used against her. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.

CANADIEN Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 There was a time when people in our Western Civilization burned witches at the stake. And that's relevant how? Quote
DogOnPorch Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 And that's relevant how? If there was a time women who were raped had to face cross-examination...there was also a time when we burned witches. lily Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 There was a time when people in our Western Civilization burned witches at the stake. Our Western Civilization... like here in North America? Because that's not true. If you mean Europe, that was several centuries ago. I was referring to laws from within our own lifetimes. Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.

benny Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 The plural of "toast" is "toast". It is a paradox, a recursive riddle that I am sure will keep you fascinated for hours. -k Genes are recursive too. Quote

Does not change the fact that there are still archaic notions about women circulating in our societies. Quote

benny Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Our Western-style formal or abstract equality between men and women is very detrimental to women because only men can be defined in universal terms; women can only be defined in serial terms. Quote

Unless you'd like to say we either still cross examin rape victims or HANG witches. Both are part of the past. Pretending that you're holier-than-thou doesn't change a thing, either.
