It seems to me that although Obama is holding onto some popularity with liberal moderates, he is finding disfavour among the far left.

In my opinion he is far left himself so why isn't the far left fawning over him? I do see he is exercising some caution in risking alienating everyone to his right because that is just about all Americans but can't the left see that? They should be used to the liberal ploys by now and see right through them with a wink and a nudge.

Those would be virtual nationalization of a couple of auto makers complete with telling them what type of car they will make as well as a few banks, fear of rocking the boat by denouncing the repression of the Iranian people by a regime more brutal than the Shah ever was while those same people are dying to simply have their vote count, setting forth far left policies without a shmick of how to enact same and, gave away state secrets in an effort to appear transparent to the left only as long as those same secrets hurt the right,while keeping those other secrets that support the right, secret.

As far as the main foreign policies go, he Bush all over again as he continues the same stategies set forth however, he is a new face that gives good speeches. If he continues and, nobody challenges him, he might pull it off. As for the contention he is far left, I agree, he is not. He simply used them to get to where he is.

Well, you have outlined some of the reasons I would consider him being far left. He also wants to vastly increase the size of government introduce a national health care program and "redistribute the wealth" (his words) don't forget .

His rhetroic doesn't really match his actions.

Since I don't find the contemporary left and right political paradigm particularly explanatory of the reasoning behind the positioning of political parties I understand the seeming similarities you see with Bush on foriegn policy. If you understand they are both big government for their own interests then you can see why Bush and Obama seem so similar.

I would describe Obama as a bit of a neocon. Neocons have their origin on the left of the political spectrum and appear right wing because they wish to preserve or "conserve" the gains that socialists have made in American society becoming the "new conservatives" and they will do that by enacting policies like increasing police activities to enforce politically correct positions. Bush was more of a paleo-conservative in that his policies were aimed more at protection of traditionally conservative mores and principles.

So now I say Obama is a neocon (supposedly right-wing) and from the far left. Well, socialism is a progression of government growth on the left and the right on our contemporary political spectrum. Different forms of totalitarian governments exist at the extremes. Communism and fascism being the two most well-known.

Bush, and now Obama, both contribute to the growth of government. Bush felt it necessary for his paleo-conservative reasons but didn't particularly increase domestic social programs beyond the interests of security and policing. Obama wishes to introduce a lot of socialist plans domestically. How he plans on paying for them has not really been thought out too well by him in my opinion especially when he (Tee Hee) promises not to increase taxes for the middle class.

His growth in the size and scope of government regarding domestic social engineering is what makes him far left in the old political spectrum and his seeming similarities to Bush's growth in government make him appear right wing or a "neocon".

You lost the point to vitriol. The far-left leanings of Obama seem palatable after your rant.

You need only point to the facts to make the point. Most people are not Marxists in a conscious sense. It gets wrapped in different words and redefined and spoonfed back to the public in the hope it isn't recognized and while it increasingly succeeds because it is for the "common good" it generally fails in practice so there is not that much to fear from socialism generally, other than it will create some rough economic times for the collective.
