Smallc Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Why is it you hold the Conservatives to a standard a mile higher then the one you hold the liberals to? Because the Liberals never say that they aren't going to do those things. Liberals have no problem appointing Senators because that's how our system works. Harper said he wouldn't do that....he did...he lied...and from the sounds of it, his Senate Reform Bill will not pass as written. Quote
Smallc Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 No it was just based on an infatuation. Well, she certainly seems to have done well in the role. Broadcasters are some of the best people for the position, beucase they know how to talk to people, and talking tt and meeting people, representing the Crown to Candians and Canada to the world is a job that involves meeting a great many people. So then Dobbin should not be complaining about Mr. Duffy. Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?" Smallc Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Ummmm...yes he should....because Harpre keeps lying, and he should be called out on it. Quote
jdobbin Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 I'm sure he scrutinized every appointment himself. That's not what he promised. Why is it you hold the Conservatives to a standard a mile higher then the one you hold the liberals to? Harper has done something no other liberal PM has ever done, appoint a senator that was voted on and recommended by the province they were to support. What is that you don't want Harper to do what he promised? What standards do you have? Quote
jdobbin Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) So then Dobbin should not be complaining about Mr. Duffy. My complaint against Mike Duffy is that he has been leaning towards the Tories as a broadcaster. My complaint against Harper is that he broke his promise. My complaint against you is that you don't care about Harper's promise, think that Duffy was ethical and that Tories who act like the Liberals you hate is okay. Edited June 3, 2009 by jdobbin Quote

YOur just upset because he made sure they were filled incase of a liberal gov. You and I both know that the liberal senators have held up the 2 paragraph bill that would start the reform process in the senate. As well for senate elections to happen in the provinces the provinces themselves must preside over them. Harper didn't lie, the provinces and the liberals senators didn't hold up their end of the bargin. They didn't pay ball so Harper did what had to be done. Which by the way is a lot more then the liberals have ever done to try to reform the system. Quit blaming Harper for shortcommings of liberals and governments outside of the federal government. Smallc Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 You and I both know that the liberal senators have held up the 2 paragraph bill that would start the reform process in the senate. There is a very good reason for that and Ingatieff stated it yesterday. First, it may not even be constitutional, and second, it would given control of the entire senate to any prime minister that held power for more than 8 years. Quote
Smallc Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 They didn't pay ball so Harper did what had to be done. Nice excuse. Quote

Harper didn't lie, the provinces and the liberals senators didn't hold up their end of the bargin. They didn't pay ball so Harper did what had to be done. Which by the way is a lot more then the liberals have ever done to try to reform the system. The provinces don't have to jump when Harper calls. They opposed unilateral reforms which is their right under our Constitution. Harper promised to have all appointments scrutinized. That includes Senate appointments. Quit blaming Harper for shortcommings of liberals and governments outside of the federal government. Passing the buck. Broken promise. Harper wants to do things his way even where there is an amending formula. He wanted his appointments commissioner not to face scrutiny and when he didn't get his way, tossed aside his promise. He didn't even put it to a vote. It seems right wingers will blame the Liberals at every turn for Harper losing his principles in their pursuit of power. The problem is that all those principles are what gave Harper an edge in elections. He has lost that edge now and as the economy continues to struggle, it the Tories that are prominently displaying their shortcomings. Quote
